We met up with Bekki to help sort the already lovely NHS allotment out, confident that the weatherman had been telling the truth about the day's forecast. Unfortunately, the skies did open and a downpour did descend upon us, but we were not disheartened! With shovel, rake and pitchfork in hand, we got to work with and without the rain to help level out the ground ready for the polytunnel to be installed at a later date. We also helped tackle them pesky brambles who had taken deep root within the ground. We walked away confident in our efforts and more than a little wet.. We spoke with Bekki about the prospects of helping out again in the future, so until our paths cross again we wave goodbye to the allotment at the The Golden Hill Community Garden.

I began my litter hunting at 6pm non-sharpish. The air was filled with the sounds of music, and all around me attendees were joyful for what Party In The Ponds offered up as entertainment. Many food stalls offering up cuisine from all around the world from Jamaica to Sri Lanka. Many homemade item stalls with items created by expert craftsmanship, candy for the kids, booze for the adults. All in all, I and my crack team of volunteers from Friends of Vassal's Park managed to sedate the litter horde from gaining roots and collected so much that the twenty industrial sized bins were overflowing, thus having to build a wall of black bags around said bins. Many went home feeling jovial, and more than slightly tipsy, and as the sun set I waved goodbye to the volunteers and organisers. See you next year Party In The Ponds..
