Bristol Report written by Melanie Young (she/her)
For the second week on a row we had a late notice task cancellation but the stars aligned perfectly for an urgent visit to Redcliffe Nursery School and Children's Centre who were being visited by Ofsted the next day and wanted the outside spaces looking as good as possible despite the downpours of the last few days. They also mentioned trusting us with the power-washer that was confiscated from us on a previous visit as we made too much noise whilst a governors' meeting was also going on.
With the walkers taking a direct route and the runners setting off in the opposite direction, the walkers sneakily ticked off a couple of extra unicorns on the route and are beating the runners 10-9. The runners don't know about this ongoing competition yet so we'll see who reads this report...
With a small courtyard and a larger playground, we were soon busy sweeping, weeding, composting and power-washing between moving large pieces of play equipment and small trucks for transporting sand back to the sandpit. Sonehow it stayed dry for the entire task except for Matt and Vicky power-washing!
A lot of staff were in preparing for the Ofsted visit and we hope we brought a smile or two to their faces as we productively larked around in the playground, having a great time ourselves. It was a fantastic visit to list the school's spirits as we declared them Outstanding.
And then we went for lovely pizza (or salad) to Franco Manca as we hadn't chatted enough yet - thanks for organising Eats, Clo!

So much daylight for the GoodGymmers who met at a buzzing Queen Square in the sunshine - numerous (2) volleyball games, a drum and base solo party and lots of after-work socialising. There wasn't a spare seat to be had at King Street as we walked or ran past the drinkers.
Vaguely Northern Darren was run leading through the streets and parks and already had the team on the task by the time the walkers were crossing the bridge over the motorway.
There were various areas needing weeding and sweeping and we were soon differentiating between nice plants to keep and weeds to murder, made easier when they were growing on the path or in the wall! We found watering cans, a water butt and, just too late, a hosepipe.
Sneaking into the shady huts for our end of task photo, Paul managed to be in the photo twice using his wily cunning. Or something.
The runners set off for the return to Queen Square after a quick rendition (ish) of Here Comes the Hot Stepper, everyone getting excited about Phill's vegan millionaire's shortbread to celebrate his 200th good deed which was actually on Saturday but he forgot to offer them round so the Tuesday Group Run Club benefitted instead.
We enjoyed sitting outside at workout with a Very Funny new member of the refurbished bar staff (the bar was refurbished, not the staff, they're just new), chatting away until there was only one piece of shortbread left. We're all so polite in Bristol.
It was great to meet Josh whose first good deed was last week when I was poorly - only a few of last week's attendees were here this week so Josh had a whole lot more faces and names to get used to, helped by having two Davids/Daves - just like GG Central where we hear our Godfather Dave is not Techy Dave, who has been working tirelessly to get the website functionality back up and running!

Josh Cooper has done their first good deed with GoodGym.
Josh is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

10 runners ran, walked and hobbled to St Anne’s this evening to continue the clearing the overgrowth at the back (it might not have been willow), the ivy at the front, and the litter everywhere else. We welcomed Josh for his first GoodGym this evening, and Clo discovered early on the run that he was doing his first ultra, so passed him over to Matt who may have ran the odd long distance run or two, some of them not even up mountains.
Jason and Frances walked and joined in at St Anne’s - great to have walkers even when Melanie was poorly back at home.
Vaguely Northern Darren was in his element as Run Director but we can’t upload the photos yet to prove it!
Great to see everyone, more next week.
