Three litter picking goodgym ninjas swept along Cowdray avenue hunting out litter this evening. The usual suspects - food wrappers, macdonalds cups and drinks cans were bagged up and left for collection by the council. Well done everyone!

On a chilly damp morning 7 GoodGymers turned up to cheer on, direct and keep safe some enthusiastic young runners. The core team were very grateful for our support as it made their job much easier in filling all the positions.

Another chilly evening in town and another task on the board for Goodgym Colchester. This time meeting Colchester in Bloom's Pam to collect some bedding plants and walk them up to the High St, we were joined this week by new member Christian.
Splitting into groups, we were able to swap out dead plants and sparse areas of the flower beds with fresh spring flowers, whilst clearing some gum and ciggarettes too. The town was alot quieter than our last evening task here before Christmas, but that meant we avoided any accusations of vandalism and could move more quickly.
Gathering outside the town hall for a quick picture, we then walked back the bags and dispersed, satisfied with a job well done and brighter evenings on the horizon.

The brutal wind and rain did not stop us descending once more upon a thankfully indoor task at the foodbank. Once peeling off our layers and getting to sweeping we soon warmed up, with plenty to clean between the three of us.
Some chat about school holidays, teaching and how many poos toddlers have, we also mopped the floors and left the space in a much shinier state. We then hopped in Louise's car for the trip home which saved us another soaking, much appreciated!
Another task in the books, join us next week to help Colchester in bloom!

A flock of Goodgymers in and around Colchester waited with bated breath and baited bird tables to see...... not very much actually. Pigeons were plentiful, so were magpies, gulls and starlings, but very few landed. Our favourite visitors, such as robins, bluetits and longtailed tits were taking shelter elsewhere, and who can blame them in this stormy weather. A disappointing watch, but vital data for the RSPB, and a reminder not to take our wilder friends for granted. Upload all your sightings (and none!) to the RSPB website. Support your local population of wild birds by planting native wildflowers, fruit bushes or trees, putting out a water bowl, and maybe offering a nest box or two if you have space.
