Richmond Report written by Jenni H
After a slightly delayed start while the team assembled, Rochelle led the way with Jenni and Sarah Jane following Rochelle's excellent directions.
We were surveying the slow ways route RicPut2 https://beta.slowways.org/Route/Ricput/8928
We started off well, with good paths, no steep curbs and the map seemed to follow the route well! There was a huge tree which caused the pavement to narrow, but thankfully there wasnt much of an issue getting around.
We met Rosie and started our off-road section, through the woodland by Sheen Common, which we all agreed was fine in the dry weather, but would be more tricky when it got muddy! Sarah was also able to give us some additional feedback from a wheelchair user's perspective, which made us all start to look at things from a non-walker's view too.
The rest of the route was fairly good, with the odd restricted width section and bumpy alley ways, and we all saw different parts of town we'd never visited before! The section through Highcliffe neighborhood posed some navigation challenges and a few hills that Sarah said would be difficult to ascend in a wheelchair.
The last stretch took us through the residential streets of Putney, before we saw our end point - Putney train station, where we found a nearby coffee shop to get a reward for our efforts after a chilly 8km walk!

It was a lovely sunny morning which was deceiving with the icy wind. We wrapped up warm and started off from Richmond station for our Slow Ways walk to Turnham Green. What seemed to be a straightforward route soon left us a little puzzled as the route changed and it took us on a scenic route through streets with impressive looking houses, where we admired bay windows and cherry trees blossoming. We got to discover a different part of Chiswick and areas we haven’t seen before. The route in itself did not show any issues and we recommend everyone to give Slow Ways a go!

Rochelle earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Rochelle completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Rochelle was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Our first Sunday walking task is complete! The five of us met at Richmond Station to head up the road to the residential streets to deliver leaflets.
These leaflets were for Richmond Good Neighbours who do incredible work to help vulnerable people in the area access support. Around 400 leaflets were posted with the aim of finding new volunteers amongst the lovely people of Richmond.
Liz clocked up around 5km in Strava, a great example of how all movement is exercise. Plus it counts to our January Challenge total that is still going strong with just three days to go.
Good deed done before midday on a Sunday, yes team!
