Colchester Report written by Angela Isherwood
Unusual time, unusual place, but many familiar faces met at Old Heath Rec for a Saturday afternoon Goodgym Starter Session. After a chilly parkrun morning, I was hoping for a warmer afternoon, but the icy cold wind meant we all got rather cold as we signed up.
Theresa met us with the equipment having filled up an entire bin bag from litter picking on the Old Heath Rec.
We welcomed Charlotte, for her first Goodgym run, and then we made our way to Simon's Lane, which was the site of our last starter session back in April.
Whilst there was a LOT of litter to pick, the most interesting piece of litter was probably two full unopened cans of beer.
An extra long task of litter picking and we returned to dump the bags at Theresa's house before making our way back to the rec. There we were just about to finish up, when Tav showed up with a frisbee, football and another whistling rocket thing, so we had about 20 minutes of acting like big kids and trying not to get hit by various flying objects.
All in all a fun afternoon in New Town, and a good deed done for the local community.

Theresa Higgins is a now a fully fledged GoodGym runner. They've just run to do good for the first time. They are out there making amazing things happen and getting fit at the same time.

7 Goodgymers clear Simon street Footpath in New Town
Another unusual meet up at the Old Heath Rec, this time on a Bank Holiday Monday Morning.
Definitely worth doing these runs at extra times as we had 4 newbies to our group. Theresa, Fran, Anneka and Peter who visited us all the way from Goodgym Bristol.
After signing in and catching up on our Easter we started our warm up on the Old Heath Rec before heading to the car park to collect supplies.
We made our way to the footpath and as well as litter picking, there were a few overgrown plants to cut back, thanks to Theresa for bringing some shears. We had 35 minutes and this allowed us to clear 2 sections of the footpath, including the bridge across the railway.
A local resident came out of his home to tell us how he'd lived there for 40 years, and he was so glad that we were doing something about the footpath. Its always nice to be appreciated.
After finishing up the task, we made our way back to the rec to put the equipment away before playing Frisbee. I have to say that today's group was a bit more skilled than Saturday's group at throwing the frisbee, although this may have been because the wind was less strong.
We'll be back to our normal Wednesday evening runs from now on, although we may have a few more starter sessions as we get into summer.
