It was a nippy one tonight as we met at Crook Log! Although low on numbers tonight, we were ready to go to our task at Adelaide Care Home.
It was great to welcome new memeber Matt we hope you enjoyed your first GoodGym run!
After a quick warm-up we split into 2 groups.
The runners
&
The walkers
The running group took a short, direct route to the care home to get there as soon as possible and to get stuck into the task! Meanwhile, the walkers were on the hills of the runners.
Upon arrival to the care home we were shown into the garden where our task was to empty a range of plant pots into the garden and move the empty pots to the other side of the garden.
It didn't take long before we were done and after rearranging the gnomes, we headed out and onto our second task of the evening.
We had come prepped with leaflets for the Greenwich and Bexley Hospice Santa Dash and Christmas fair and on the way back to GG Bexley HQ we flyered in and out of the houses delivering the leaflets.
After most of us had lost the feeling in our fingertips, we were back at Crook Log. We stretched and cooled down 🥶 before saying our goodbyes.
Great work tonight guys! It was definitely a cold one!
Until next week...
Happy Running!

Tonight we met at Crook Log as usual. The storm seemed to have disappeared as we made our way outside for our warmup. However, it was still windy enough to keep blowing our cones over for our game. We decided to alter the game a little and had a relay race to see which team could collect all their coloured cones first. After a bit of confusion and an almost fatal collision, we settled at a draw.
It was time to split into out 2 teams.
Runners
&
Walkers
We headed straight for the care home as we wasn't sure what task we would be doing. We made it there in not time at all. Great running from the team and the walking group arrived not too far after the runners.
Upon arrival, we were given some paint brushes and a large pot of paint. Our task was to touch up parts of the coving. We nominated some painters, who picked up a brush and got to work while the rest supervised, making sure that they were safe and holding the tools.
The coving looked better already!!
We tidied up, washed brushes and made sure that there were no drips of paint anywhere... We were all good!
It was time to head back to Crook Log. We had a short jog back before cooling down.
Great work tonight.
See you next time!

Tonight we met inside Crook Log Leisure Centre. Everyone was busy catching up on the last week, discussing parkruns and welcoming our new member! As we moved outside, ready for our warm up we did a quick headcount and congratulated Emmanuel on his 50th Good Deed.
We had a group of runners and a group of walkers heading to tonights task. The runners took a slightly longer route and the walkers a more direct route. It was perfect timing as we all arrived at pretty much the same time. Upon arrival, it became clear that no-one at the task knew we were coming and there was actually no task for us to do 😕
After putting on our thinking hats we came up with a back-up plan.
We all made our way back to Crook Log where we played a fun and absolutely, in no way competitive game of Noughts and Crosses. We split into 2 teams which unintentionally happened to be boys vs girls. We renamed the noughts, angels and crosses, devils. The aim was for each runner in the team to sprint to the board first to lay their piece before the other team; whoever gets there first stands a better chance of winning. After a few clear wins from the noughts, we had a shuffle up of teams and after a few more rounds where things got a bit messy. We decided to call it a day when we saw, what looked like a bat, start dive bombing around us and that it was time for some celebratory cake. 🦇
We made our way to the indoor cafe inside the leisure centre onto some comfy sofas to enjoy the cake.
Until next time. Happy running 🏃🏻♀️

Tonight was a lovely warm evening and great weather for a quick run to the task! As there was going to be a lot of painting to do, we started out with a quick warm up before heading off towards Adelaide House. We had 5 runners and 2 walkers. Upon arrival, all the tools for the task had been set out. The task was to paint the fence grey and the benches brown. We each grabbed a paintbrush and pot of paint and started work! By this time, the walkers had arrived and they joined Team Bench as there were quite a few benches which needed painting. After painting and chatting, we stepped back to admire our work, looking at how much painting we had got done. We had definitely made a difference but had run out of time to finish all the benches and the whole fence. We cleaned all the paintbrushes and tidied up before saying our goodbyes and heading off back to base.
Tonight was Emmanuel's last GoodGym for a few weeks as he is off to Italy for his sisters wedding. We cant wait to hear all about it and look forward to sharing the Italian snacks when he returns! 🍫
Next week we are up at the Greenwich and Bexley Hospice shop. Find out more and sign up here
Good work tonight Bexley! Have a good week!

Rain, Rain, and more Rain........... It was great to see some of the gang turn up this evening for our painting task at the Adelaide care home. Short on our usual numbers we power walked to the home this week so we could chat and stay together as a group.
On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome and shown to our task. This evening we were giving the linen cupboard a new lick of paint. With a small space to work in we took it in turns with the brushes and rollers. Thanks to Seans long arms we managed to reach places we wouldn't of been able to. Great job Sean
Its always lovely to have an indoor task and days like today and its even better when the hot chocolate is offered also. Not being professional painters we done the best we could, we hope you love it guys. I personally think it looked fab but i may be a little bias...........
Thanks Susan, Sarah, Jess, Sean and Emanuel for braving the horrible weather. We couldn't of done it without you.
Next week we're heading over to our good friends at Bexley Mencap so make sure you all sign up. It's going to be fun as always.

As the warm, Easter bank holiday weekend was coming to an end, 7 GGers met at Crook Log ready to embark on our run to the task. It was great to have Sarah and Johnny join us again from GG Hammersmith and Fulham. There was a lot of catching up to do...talks of which parkruns we had toured at on Saturday and how the marathon training is going before we made our way outside for a warm-up. It feels a bit strange leaving the cold, dark nights behind us and still being not quite sure what to wear. Is just a GG t-shirt alone enough?!?
We had a short run out to Adelaide Care Home where we had a painting task. Upon arrival we were offered hot drinks and then were shown to a storeroom cupboard where the inside needed painting and was told that there was another which needed painting upstairs.
There was one problem...we only had one pot of paint!
Some of us went in search of something we could use to take the paint upstairs and came back with a plastic popcorn container. We made do with one paintbrush and 2 small rollers, allocating the equipment between the 2 floors. What we didn't know was that the upstairs store cupboard was 3 times larger than the downstairs and was still full up.
You've missed a bit!
While the team downstairs were busy painting and helping the keep the door propped open, the team upstairs emptied the cupboard and then rotated between painting and shining our mobile phone torches onto the bits that were missed.
It was then time to pack up tools and reassemble the shelves into the cupboards. We said our goodbyes and then accidentally enlisted the help of a staff member who became our GG photographer for a quick photo session before our run back to base.
We had a quick cool down stretch before nearly getting locked in the car park as it was shutting early because of the bank holiday!
Well done everyone for joining us on Easter Monday! See you next time 🙌
