Flyering high for two charities

Tuesday 6th November 2018

Written by Paul Salman

Thirteen good gym runners ran in support of two local charities by distributing flyers. It was a mild dry night as we gathered at the Pheonix cinema for a brief chat and warm up. We set off towards Hampstead garden suburb and split into two teams to start the posting. To keep the heart rate up and strengthen we also stopped occasionally to do some paired exercises. We were trying to help Barnet furniture centre Click here BFC, which is trying to recycle furniture to less well off people in the borough and Stephens House and Gardens, Click here SHG which is a self funded peoples ‘pocket’ park. It was a great effort and we finished the session with a visit to Lyttelton Playing Fields where they have an out door Gym. After a brief play we returned to the Pheonix.

Thanks for coming, running and doing good!

Leafleting it all out there for Stephens House & Gardens

Tuesday 11th September 2018

Written by Paul Salman

Twenty toned goodgym runners ran to deliver leaflets for Stephens House and Gardens. Unfortunately our original task had fallen through with a lack of support staff so plan B was put into operation. As usual we started at the Phoenix cinema with a count out and an in-depth discussion on the merits of cats and dogs. In the end the vote went to the dogs. The daylight was fast fading but we still had enough light to make use of Cherry Tree Wood for a warm up and a game of ‘stuck in the mud’ (with consequences.) This involved a restricted area where Graham, Rupesh, and Rob caught runners who then had the choice of squats or press ups to be released by other runners. Quite a work out. We finished with a few star jumps on the pretence of making a dynamic photo….I will leave you to judge the highest jump. Then to work delivering leaflets for the trust around the darkening streets of east finchley. Last time we did this it really did help the Trust raise money as bookings noticeably increased after our mail shot.(Particularly the Gin evening apparently! although other sober activities available including quiz nights & film nights) After delivering over 400 leaflets we returned to the Phoenix for a warm down. Sarah ( official unofficial social secretary) had booked a table for us at the Clissold Arms pub and it was great to see almost everyone come along. Give a shout out to our new runners Jordon and Beth..welcome!

Thanks for coming, running and doing good!

Learn to Flyer ✈️

Tuesday 23rd January 2018

Written by Barnet runner

Eleven excellent GoodGymmers took to the streets in Barnet to deliver flyers for Stephen's House and Gardens.

Meeting at the Phoenix we were joined by Shannon for her first ever GoodGym run. Nice one Shannon! Go give her a cheer!

After some confusion with the task for the evening - the Barnet Furniture Centre canceled our sanding task, asked us to Flyer for them, then ran out of flyers - Task Force Paul stepped in and picked up some flyers from Stephen's House for us to deliver. They are a wonderful local charity run house and gardens with a full events program to promote! (we are also back there in mid February to help in the garden, check the website for that one)

Dividing into teams with team captains Nicola and Paul, our runners set about delivering the flyers using the tried and trusted relay method. Shannon quickly picked up the rhythm and they were away. We focused on local areas in East finchley then the roads near Stephen's House.

With all the flyers delivered (the rain had set in by this point but that doesn't put us off) the team stopped for a quick stepping drill before the run home.

Last thing before we got back- a quick shuttle run to pick up our pace and use up that last bit of energy. Everyone did great, with Graham was very speedy indeed. Later analysis showed the distance was about 155m at a higher speed (which Graham wanted to make particularly clear), so, well done everyone!

Back at base we celebrated with high fives and this week's biscuit: Ginger Nuts.

See you next time!
