I can see clearly now, the rain has gone!

Saturday 7th January 2023

Written by Ellen

Waking up to a downpour is not the most promising start to a community mission. But then the clouds dissipated, and patches of blue sky appeared. So 4 GoodGymmers went litter picking with the Cardiff Rivers Group and a relatively decent Saturday morning.

Since the Taff was in full flow after all the recent rain, we stayed well clear of the river. Focusing on the Sophia Gardens end of Bute Park, we caught up with each other after the Christmas break whilst slowly meandering through the park, using the grabbers as we went. We went slowly not only so we could chat - but more because there was so much litter!

We collected many bottles, cans, plastic wrappers, wet clothes, paper cups and several pairs of glasses! Our bags became increasingly heavy, which really did make it like a proper gym session. So we headed back to the Cardiff Rivers Group base to drop off our bags and equipment. We 4 GoodGymmers did at least 6 bags, and there must've been 2 dozen in total - the final count was not known as others were still out collecting.

Further litter picks with this group are planned for January, so watch this space and make sure you sign up!

Taff Mudder Runners

Saturday 16th February 2019

On a Saturday morning 5 runners gave their time to help keep the river Taff looking its best. 2 keen runners, Richard (joining us from Bristol) and Adam started with parkrun fun before making their way up to Radyr cricket club. Along the route Mikey ran into Amy and Fiona as they discussed the unseen bridge route that 'Google' was showing. They gave up and ran further down the river to another bridge, at least that's some more distance for the weekend exercise.

Soon we were at the cricket club in time for the health and safety briefing, we were to attack the river banks with litter picks in hand and help to remove as much rubbish as possible whilst the water levels were low. For two glorious hours we waved the goodgym flag as we helped alongside the Cardiff rivers group volunteers. Amongst the finds today were multiple shopping trolleys, a couple of tyres, so many shoes and boots, even a sexy heel, coats, cans and so much plastic and a dolls head!

Many, many bags later and it was time to down tools and head back
