Sorting and Folding

Thursday 9th September 2021

A change of day also meant new start point and a change of borough!!!!

The call went out from Care4Calais for help with sorting a new intake of donations prior to be distribution to refugees who have recently arrived in the UK.

We met at Mile End station and it was lovely to see Lil who joined us for her first group run after joining us for several community missions in 2020.

Hilary led the way as she took the bike option for this evening,a nice gentle run along the Mile End road.

We arrived at the storage area which is adjacent to the East London Mosque.

A large area has been set aside for sorting the new donations into children, women and men.....they will be further sorted into age groups and boxed up ready for distribution.

Tower Hamlets have 2 sessions this week

The nice weather brought out the numbers and even a few spectators! Volunteer coach Tharik helped to bring out some great football from both sides and helped with some of the refereeing too - which was welcome! A great day - I recommend for any future referee to bring a whistle!

John, Beth, Sree and Myself made our way to Stepney City Farm to help Care4Calais with sorting through their donations.

We were met by the friendly face of Libby, who gave us the motivation to tackle the large volume of clothes, toys & other items we needed to organise.

We were asked to separate donations by gender, age, and type. By the end of the day, we had managed to sort & label 100+ bags of donations.

Hopefully, with our help, it has made it easier for care4calais to distribute these much needed donations to their recipients.
