The Last run!

Tuesday 27th August

Written by Joel Wiles

12 GoodGymers ran 1k and shovelled 32 tonnes of mulch to reach our pathway goal!

Thank you to everyone who could make and wanted to make my last session as Group leader.

Starting the session with a running loop around the perimeter of London Fields to get us rolling for the session ahead!

Delighted that after about 10 sessions of graft on the pathway we reached out target and the conservation area now has a great mulch pathway which will allow year round accessibility to the educational and park users as they get to use the pathway to experience the bio-diverse area.

Some fresh mulch was very useful and having Peter fixing 3 barrows, and having an extra barrow really boosted productivity!! An amazing cheer squad from some well hydrated locals helled our push along the pathway together with some quality workout tunes to keep us in rhythm as we shoveled.

Great team work, stories, graft and laughs made for a very productive hour of GG action!!

With the pathway complete we headed off to hang out as a GG group one last time! Awesome to remember the best and worst tasks we had done together over the last nearly decade of GoodGym action.

Its been a blast to hang out with such a fun group both tonight and everyone of the weeks over the last 9 years!

Always Love

Joel

Wood chipping away

Wednesday 31st July

Written by Joel Wiles

Trip to the London Fields conservation path!! Anne and I chipped away at the woodchip pathway.

grabbing the barrows from the pavilion and powering our way to the mulch pile and loading up before storming the 800 meter round trip to lay the pathway.

The pathway is going to be a great help to keep the conservation area useable through the winter and keep the path users on the path not harming the vegetation or things living in there.

Pushing through

Wednesday 17th July

Written by Joel Wiles

4 GoodGymers moved 2 tonnes of mulch 500 metres to create a big section of pathway in the London fields conservation area.

Top workout had by all!! Especially Ruben who pushed the barrow with flat tyre fir most of the session.

Shoveling the mulch into the barrows by the South end of the park and marching the full barrows up to the Conservation area 500 metres up the road we got a lot of steps in!

Moving our pathway on a big chunk! So that the conservation area can be accessible all year round and stop park users going off path and harming the plants/ insects that live there.

75 minutes of effort and sweat was rolling! we smoothed the pathway into a smooth road before putting the tools away and heading on our ways with a job well done!!

See you next week!!

A Mulching Success

Wednesday 26th June

Written by Joel Wiles

2 GoodGymers worked hard to shovel, push and tip 18 wheelbarrow loads of mulch to create a lovely woodland pathway.

Great to continue our work creating a long, woodland pathway in the London Fields conservation area.

with the mulch pile 350 metres from the conservation area and my wheelbarrow having a very squeaky wheel we had to be both physically and mentally strong for the task in hand!

Filling the barrows high and possible the marching them to the conservation area which is used by primary school aged local children to learn about bio- diverse spaces. The pathway will allow the area to be accessible in bad weather and keep visitors to the pathway so protecting everything that is living in the space.

Trip after trip and the pathway is growing at a great rate! really looking good as we chip away at the project!

Barrow of Laughs

Wednesday 12th June

Written by Joel Wiles

2 GoodGymers grafting taking 20 very full Wheelbarrow loads on 700 metre round trip to continue our Conservation area woodchip path project in London Fields.

A big shift put in and awesome graft from Tyler to dominate the physical task racking up the the steps!

Laying down a large section of pathway in the conservation area of Primary aged children to learn about the bio diverse area of the park. The pathway helps to keep the area useable after bad weather and keeps users on the designated pathway instead of damaging the things that grow when avoiding the muddy patches.

Mulching in the Rain

Wednesday 22nd May

Written by Joel Wiles

Great effort from the squad on Wednesday evening!!

Not ideal weather but great graft making a big debt in our pursuit of the perfect mulch path through the conservation area in London Fields!!

Welcoming Piers for his first GoodGym session and Vinny getting ever so close to 50 GoodDeeds!

Grabbing the Wheelbarrows and shovels from the from the pavilion and heading across the park to the mulch pile. where we got into perfect sync with piling the mulch high before a speedy barrow run 400 metres there and back to the pathway.

50 loads of mulch and the pathway quadrupled in size! Will keep more people on the pathway when they visit and hopefully make it a more inviting exploring route. Great to protect the vegetation and ecosystem that lives just off the main path so the area can thrive year round!

Quality work team!!
