Now We Are 6

Wednesday 19th February

Written by Anwen Greenaway

It's our Birthday!

To celebrate GoodGym Oxford being 6 years old a bevy of GoodGymers got together at County Hall. Of course we had to include a Good Deed in our birthday celebrations (no Wednesday is complete without one), so we packaged up 3 boxes of old trainers to send to JogOn for repurposing and recycling. These had been collected up from friends, family and colleagues over the previous few weeks, saving them from going to landfill.

With 26 GoodGymers in attendance that task was complete in record time, leaving us the rest of the evening to chat over drinks and nibbles, reminiscing about the past 6 years and speculating about what the future might bring.

Our 6 year Good Deed count is 8038. Happy Birthday to Us!

Jog On Mate!

Wednesday 28th February 2024

A gaggle of Goodgymers assembles atvthe Rose Hill Community Centre this evening for potentially the quickest task we've ever done.........

35 pairs of trainers were paired and packaged up ready to wing their way to Jog On for redistribution and/or recycling.

New litter bingo cards were made (including dubious art work and riddles) ready for our OxClean litter pick next week.

Cake was consumed, chats were had and Ben was garlanded with the garland of joy for his 100th Good Deed!!

A small group of us then headed out into the, thankfully not rainy, night for a 3.5 mile trot.

THANK GOODNESS FOR AN INSIDE TASK!!

This evening we gathered at Oxfordshire County Hall to box up trainers that we've been collection through the week and make bunting for the Children's Book Project.

Armed with tape, templates, string, worn out books and discarded trainers we set to work. The end result was six VERY jolly strings of bunting, 48 pairs of trainers boxed up to be sent to JogOn, and plans to repeat the activities in February.

A group of hardy Goodgymers then donned all their layers and ran a chilly 5k whilst everyone else (with any sense) scuttled on home to the warm.

Great work everyone!!
