Last night seven intrepid GoodGymers (Dave, Elliott, Tasha, Leanne, Colin, Hitch and I) fresh out of the comfort of regular Mondays, arranged to meet at the OPEN Youth Trust on Bank Plain in order to help this fantastic youth charity and its endeavours by leafleting to promote its fundraising events.
After a short while where military like precision planning was undertaken, groups were divided, strike teams assembled, routes were analysed and pored over we then promptly decided to give up and just run round the city centre in a cheerfully bold blur of dynamic red.
After a somewhat hesitant start where we mused where the 'Underpass’ was, what the TIC was, and whether or not Ali Bongos was actually really a place, we bravely set off leaflets firmly in hand to find some of the larger pubs, restaurants, bars and organisations.
With the sun shining, our jolly route took us weaving in and out and round the fine bustling Norwich Lanes for the evening. Due to our schoolboy error of not having dinner before mission, all our tummys started rumbling after what barely seemed about five minutes, particularly outside Grosvenor Fish bar in Pottergate where Leanne waxed lyrical about her love of vinegar.
As we had about 10x the amount of leaflets for our strike list, this meant that I could go into all the pubs and bars I hadn’t been to, promising each proprietor I would be back to visit properly of course. Everyone seemed very friendly to have Goodgym out on the street and I didn’t even sneak a pint in anywhere.
Other occurrences - Dave in his ambassadorial role got to cajole past GoodGymers, hopefully to come again and pub goers outside the Rumsey Wells were unexpectedly greeted by a cheerful and mildly applauding GoodGym parade.
After a successful completion of the route outside the Bell Hotel (where else!!) we decided to triumphantly run the Norwich 10k route. After cajoling each other we set of in the glorious Norfolk sunshine. I lasted about ten minutes as I sheepishly peeled off to go to a concert.
