18 Goodgymmers played chicken with the weather as they chased the rainbow and lent a hand to the Osborne Grove Homeless Shelter.
A Maudlin Interval
Good ol' Gramps reached his 100th Good Deed yesterday. And what a crazy ride it's been indeed. He'd wanted to fly under the radar - after the last couple of years we've had, we have missed out on so many birthday and milestone celebrations, it felt almost self-indulgent to make any sort of noise about his own. But Goodgym Haringey folk are a wonderful and sneaky sort and they had made so much cake and prepared such a beautiful celebration, that even a tough old grump like Gramps couldn't fail to be touched. Here's hoping that as things slowly gain some semblance of normality, we can have a big social to celebrate every single one of our lovely Haringey Goodgymmers to make up for all those celebrations we have missed out on. <3
Also, Happy Birthday to our very own Super Sarah!
Somewhere clover the rainbow....
As we met Samson from the Osborne Grove Homeless Shelter last night, the weather was having a moment: part blue skies, part stormy clouds, beautiful rainbow over us. Ok, that sounds almost idyllic - it was in fact pretty wet.
But on we went, and got on with the job at hand. Last week we sorted out the front of the Grove and last night was the turn of the back garden. It was a big job. We saved a lovely blanket of clover in the middle of the garden but other than that, everything else got a pretty hefty post-lockdown haircut.
We also cleared all the moss and weeds from the tiles and liberated all the benches from overgrown stinging nettles.
By the time it came to cut the cakes, the garden was looking ace.

15 Goodgymmers met up for what felt like a good old school task last night, helping the wonderful Osborne Grove Shelter along the way.
Celebrations / Good time/ Come on!
Eid Mubarak to all our brothers and sisters who are observing the special day today! <3
And also, a very warm welcome to [Anna](Anna who joined us last night for her maiden Goodgym experience. She came armed with her own shears and glowed her way through the task - a natural!
Frond Farewell (to Lockdown)
I'm not going to lie, I wasn't expecting this many people to show up. I'm used to seeing about 6 or 7 people per mission at the moment but when I checked numbers earlier this week and saw that 17 people were signed up, I nearly fell off my chair. Luckily I'm carrying a lot of lockdown weight so falling off my chair is quite difficult at the moment, as gravity keeps me heavily grounded. Aaaaanyway, I digress. In the end, 15 of us turned up at Osborne Grove Shelter for a good pruning session. It was so old school, that we even had someone turn up at the last minute without signing up! It was lovely Dharmesh from GGRedbridge and it'll probably be easier to get angry at a new born puppy than him, so we'll let it slide :)
We were welcome with new, shiny shears and our ever-ready Goodgymmers had even brought their own tools as well anyway, so we got on with the job at hand. The bushes at the front of the Grove needed a generous trimming, and the paving stones at the front benefitted from a good scrubbing and weeding as well. It was a big job and we have unfinished business so we're going back next week for more. You should join us!
Peace
