This week our group run took us to the Green House Community Hub's new cafe. With the cafe due to open at the weekend it was all hands on deck to get the finishing touches done and the furniture assembled.
With ten Goodgymers we soon turned the space into a hive of activity, building flatpacks, moving furniture, last bits of painting, weeding outside. It was all happening!
With a good bit of teamwork we managed to get all the flatpacks done in quick time and got the cafe team a day ahead on their plans. The cafe is well on the way to being a welcoming new community hub.
All that in the middle of an 8km run as well!

We had a great turnout this week with a mixture of walkers and runners so we sent the walkers off early for a head start while the runners got warmed up to take on the evenings uphill struggle to our task.
We were all heading to the Green House community hub where progress on the new cafe space was coming along well. The main cafe space had had one coat but needed another coat and some cutting in. With red, white and green walls to paint we split into three colour coded teams and got going.
The red and green areas being smaller we managed to get finished and left them looking properly smart. The white area was too big for us on this occasion but we got it half done so there's not too much left for their weekend volunteers to work on.
Before we could leave we had to take a moment to celebrate birthday girl Mayra, so with the help of Mr Kipling we enjoyed a round of cake and sung happy birthday!

Five Fit Goodgymers took on the uphill run from the town centre to Stopsley on a mission to complete a second round of painting at the Green House community hub.
The old Sunday school building has been converted into a community cafe to sit alongside the community garden and be a meeting point for the community.
We painted the new toilets white and primed the fresh plaster in the main space ready to take a nice coat of white next time.
The evening was finished off with a nice downhill run back into town.

Tonight, 5 of Luton's finest met at the Greenhouse Community Hub in Stopsley to help with some painting in the new space they have, which will soon be a community cafe. 4 of the team set out from town and ran just shy of 3 km to our task, where we meeting Rebeccawho was walking to the task. On our run to Stopsley we passed Kevin from ABCD-IN-LUTON, it was lovely to see him and we look forward to teaming up with him again soon. After arriving, we set about our task. We were giving the toilets its first coat on new plaster. We did this with a water/pva glue solution, which went on quite nicely. Lizzy nearly blinded herself painting the ceiling and Duncangot to grips with all the high areas. Ella dealt with all the fiddly bits and I took some photos, climbed a ladder and misbehaved. We had fun and after washing up our brushes and rollers, we set off back to our starting points. I'm sure there'll be lots more to do at this project and we look forward to helping out in the near future. Well done team

Small group tonight and luckily just a small task, a spot of weed pulling around the fencing at the Stopsley Community Garden.
It's always a decent incline run up to Stopsley so it makes a good workout, and the task left the area looking smart and tidy before we headed back down the hill.

On Wednesday evening, 6 Goodgymmers made our way up to the Greenhouse in Stopsley to help clear a very overgrown alley next to the community garden.
Between us we weeded, raked, cut back and swept away lots of very thorny brambles to make the alleyway accessible and useable again. A job well done!
