On a glorious and Sunny Friday evening, Area Activator Simon, Tower Hamlets regular Joel and first time Goodgymmer Sandra met up at Canonbury Gardens near Essex Road to lend a hand with re-building a collection of compost bins.
Thia was a continuation from our project last week, when a crew of Goodgymmers re-constructed the boxes from some broken down slats and beams. The task required lots of pulling nails, removing old screws, balancing wood joints and problem solving! But our crew did a smashing job!
It was lovely to see that our first compost bin was already in use by the Manna Project food bank and by local gardeners. All being well, we will continue to construct even more compost bins over the next few weeks.

Our Goodgym crew were invited to lend a hand at Canonbury Gardens this evening, by the Manna Project, Islington (a foodbank and community hub for the vulnerable). The team were looking for a crew of helpful volunteers to rebuild some crumbly compost bins from within the park. The original bins were built on unstable ground, and have started to fall apart over the years, so our first task was to relocate these to a newly prepared spot.
Once we brought all the wooden planks and fixings together, Jo, Jacqueline and John held the structure together, while Harvey and Simon took it in turns to remove rusty old wood screws from the frame, and to position the correct slats in the right place. This proved to be a difficult job, but we succeeded with a boost of team work and positivity! After a few attempts, we were able to build a new, improved and completely functional compost bin.
Well done all. If you are itchy to see how the rest of the project comes together, you are very welcome to join us for new session, same time, next week!
