Isha bit windy for Monkeying Around 🐒

Sunday 21st January

Written by York runner

A great bunch of GG Yorkies helped out local running club York Knavesmire Harriers at their flagship Brass Monkey Half Marathon event, which attracts over 1700 runners. We braved the increasing winds 💨 (due to storm Isha) and were thankful for the slightly higher temperature and even some sunshine 🌤️.

Myself, Nick and Laurence were marshalling at our usual spot at the top of the "lollipop 🍭 stick" part of the route, where we got to see the runners going out and coming back (looking somewhat more tired). Laura registered the volunteers and was an extra air horn 📣 at the start and then she was marshal on the first finish strip to advise runners to keep going as it wasn't the actual finish. The finish gantry had been taken down due to the strong winds.

Vicky, Neil, Ed & Tom were at the finish area marshalling and handing out water. Jenna and Lucy marshalled near the end of the route and looked after tired runners, slowed down any traffic and played some music ♫♫ to keep up morale. Anna was on one of the water 💧 stations whilst Michal marshalled at the Bishopthorpe speed bumps and got a free coffee ☕️ at a local pub!

A great morning, seeing so many inspirational runners and some great results from some of our very own GG Yorkies too!

Marshalling the Monkeys 🙈

Sunday 15th January 2023

Written by York runner

A fabulous bunch of GG Yorkies helped local running club Knavesmire Harriers put on their 40th anniversary Brass Monkey half marathon. This is their flagship event and has become one of the most popular races in the North of England, with places selling out within minutes!

Some of our crew helped out at Race HQ, some were at the start/finish and others out marshaling on the course. We were grateful for the sunshine and no rain or risk of ice. Several other GG Yorkies ran the event and were cheered on enthusiastically by their fellow GG pals with some fantastic running and some shiny new PBs.

The race organisers have asked me to pass on their huge thanks to everyone who helped today - especially as they were missing a couple of marshals. I hope you all managed to get your t-shirts, buffs and chocolate!
