Young Lewisham Project

The Young Lewisham Project provides a safe, inclusive learning environment where young people can maximise their chances of becoming valued members of society. Through enrichment, alternative educational courses and team recreational activities we aim to re-engage young people, increase their confidence and well-being along with improving their skills and self-esteem.

27 GoodGymers have supported Young Lewisham Project with 4 tasks.

Running on thin ice

Monday 15th January

Written by Kim Parker

Last night we were thin on the ground of regulars, tasks and a bit of ice thrown in for good measure. On the plus side we were joined by a lovely bunch from Southwark and a couple of new members who picked the longest run in our repertoire for their first GG experience - huge well done!!

It was a long run for both the Lewisham and Southwark contingents to arrive at Young Lewisham Project to find nobody around to let us in. We tried to find a bell, peered through a tiny gap in the gate and also thought about if we could jump over a wall. In the end we decided to give it 5 min (which was probably more like 10) and head our separate ways back up and over the hill for us then downhill all the way to Glass Mill.

Thanks everyone for turning up in the bitterly cold ready to paint. Next week isn't as far of a run, we're heading to Senior's for an indoor task and the Southwark team, you're of course welcome to join us!

Everybody needs Good(Gym) neighbours!

Monday 30th October 2023

Written by Kim Parker

Could this officially be our longest run? 8.4km of hills and thrills! For those that stayed with us till the bitter end ;)

It was wonderful to be able to finally get to Young Lewisham Project and make a start on the painting. And even more wonderful to have people arriving at the task by running, walking and cycling!

The first job of the evening was to mix the Oklahoma grey paint to reveal the true colour. Well done Julian and Louise for the mixing! It was soon time for pouring the first lot of paint and also nearly losing my phone to the depths of the paint. Imagine...there wouldn't have been an excessive number of group photos of the eve!!

Soon after our friends from GG Bromley arrived and there was soon a rush of GG-ers painting away! What a sight.

Those not painting had the task of masking taping the limits of where everyone was to paint up to and then also tackling mopping up any split paint and putting newspaper under paint trays.

It was soon time to be wrapping up and gathering for a group photo. We lost a couple of a tour of the facilities so we had a couple of fake group photos.

One real group photo later and it was time to say our goodbyes. GG Lewisham turning left and GG Bromley turning right.

We're heading back to Young Lewisham Project soon but first we need to tackle the flyering for Age Exchange next week.

Rain stopped play

Monday 2nd October 2023

Written by Kim Parker

I write this from Chicago where it's 28degress and blue sky, forgetting that there could be rain elsewhere! Our task on Monday was cancelled at the very last minute - the outdoor painting not being possible due to the Great British weather.

Not to worry, those that did end up meeting at Glass Mill, ran an a loop of Ladywell Fields and with the intentions of doing a little bit of good sometime this week, it was time for everyone to head home.

We are heading back to Young Lewisham Project at the end of the month.
