14 steely Goodgymmers defied the almost sub-zero temperatures and threats of snow flurries to help the wonderful LUOS last night. As cool as ice, these Goodgymmers.
Can I get a Woop Woop?
Everybody make some noise for Rodger on his first ever GG run, Femi on her glorious return for her second run ever (and what a run it was - a natural!), and Ceri making an assured return to the GGHaringey house of fun. Boom!
Luckily, another week burpee-free for us as our Burpee Torch-bearer is still away but we're looking forward to his return. Stay safe out there, K-man.
No Gutter Press For Us!
We were joined by a journalist and photographer from the Telegraph last night so I booked a make-up artist* for all of us so we could look gorgeous on the broadsheet publication but the artist went home early when he saw our Goodgymmers arriving one by one with smiles on their faces. No need for his services. Right? Right? GGHaringey is already gorgeous.
The proof's in the pudding as they say, and last night there was pudding all around. Our Goodgymmers crushed a 5k run, visiting the always-lovely Living Under One Sun, where we were tasked with helping clear a very cluttered gutter with leaves left behind by those nasty Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis.
It was cold. It was very cold. It was ever so cold. But did any of out Goodgymmer even mutter a grunt of complaint? They did not! They put on gloves, grabbed forks, and set off to fill bag after bag with leaves and there was even some impromptu litter picking.
The unexpected star of the night was Dave's melon. And the melony chain reaction it kicked off. But you had to be there for that one, I'm afraid - can't really commit any of the japes and capers that ensued to paper!
After 30 minutes or so, we bid Leyla and Luos farewell and had a rather leg-heavy fitness session in the lovely Down Lane Park before setting off back to HQ.
Pats on the back all around <3
Come and join us next week for more fun times.
And on Sunday, a massive Goodgym team is running the Big Half, including a few GGHaringey regulars, come and cheer and celebrate!
And if you fancy a race yourself at some point this year, you can bag yourself a queue-jumping VirginSport Bib by volunteering at the Hackney Half in May. Details here!
Boom!!!

The sun came out this morning and 19 Goodgymmers rose to the challenge, making the most of the lovely weather
Next Stop 'Kudos Lane'
This was a starter session after all and Haringey did not disappoint! So everybody make some noise for Lynnette, David, Emily, Kattis, Charlotte and Sarah - all of whom were making their maiden flights today and landed with aplomb and grace. Bravo!
Also a special mention for Tessa and Ceri who joined us for their sophomore runs. We do love a returning customer wink, wink
It's a dirty cob but someone's gotta do it!
The day started as we congregated under the beautiful wavy Goodgym flag at one of the basketball courts at Ducketts Common. One by one, smiling faces started pouring in. And they were all mostly new faces as my trusty back up team had run into delays at... erm... checks notes again ... the pub. No matter, the new Goodgymers were ON IT and very soon we were doing some dynamic stretching and talking about the beauty of Goodgym tasks. Finally, after the full contingent had assembled, we divided into Walking and Running Squads and set off for the Westbury Banks Nature Reserve. Rebecca led the walkers, whilst I joined the runners for a run, just under 2k, to the reserve.
Upon arrival, we met Dom and David who were waiting for us at the task and who had already made themselves useful by kindly giving an unlucky North London rodent an appropriate burial. Aaaaaaaanyway, at the task Luke and Jess from the reserve had a lovely task arranged for us: we were to help creating a cob bench! So, some of us dug up some clay, some ferried sand, some even got to do some pretty heavy metal cob mixing (ok, it looked more like a jig than a mosh pit but pretty fun all the same). In fact, there were so many of us, we even managed around four teams of heavy duty weeders.
All fun things must come to an end, alas, and at around midday we bid the Reserve farewell and walkers and runners set back for the sunshine at Ducketts Common,
Chi led a fun fitness session at the Common that included an amazing Sprint on Chi's behalf to help his car avoid a traffic warden's unwanted attention.
I hope you all enjoyed that day as much as I did.
Why not join us this Wednesday for our weekly group run? Details here.

7 runners ran round the block to water some very thirsty hollyhocks.
With storm clouds threatening (but ultimately failing to) remove the need for our help, we gathered outside the Pool. Despite the weather, joining us for their first run were Ceri, and Latoya! Nice one. We warmed up with a quick game of name-calling burpees, which some passing children joined in. Big cheers to the child who decided to do double push-ups on her turn!
We then headed off round the block, with a few sprint drills working on our foot dorsiflexion (lifting the toes up) so help us spring into action.
Once we arrived at the green, we split into two team. Pruning round the green, and watering the hollyhocks in the kids playground. This was a more physical task than it sounds like, since there's no tap near there, and multiple trips and tips of giant bags were required. We gained another group of children who wanted to help out with the bucket sloshing, and pointed out the local insects too. With the additional help we were even able to fit in a quick sweep of litter picking!
After gathering around the Robinia Pseudoacacia for a team photo, we managed to fit in a fierce conditioning session, with a reverse pyramid of press-up and burpees. Hats off to Liam who flew through those press-ups!
Then those all important stretches, and off for dinner!
