8 wonderful Westminsterians wandered over to Rhythms of Life this evening, a homeless charity that helps out the homeless with food, clothing and hygiene supplies.
On arrival we were met by the amazingly enthusiastic Andrew, formally homeless himself, who runs the charity and works tirelessly to keep it going.
Our job for the evening was to sort a giant stack of donated clothes. Men's trousers, women's trousers, men's coats, women's coats (sooooo many of these), shirts, bras, kids' stuff, hats and miscellaneous. We spent a good 40 minutes sorting, sipping Lucozade to keep us going and stopping only for a very fashionable photo (and a shimmy).
And at the end of the night we had left several neatly piled crates of clothing ready to be distributed as needed.
Following a quick tour of the building and seeing what delights were in store for future visits we headed off into the night.
On our way back we worked on our technique by pretending stuff. We visualised running on ice, we pretended we were ninjas, we imagined that the ground was red hot, we made believe that helicopters were pulling us along and that balloons were pulling us up, and finally we made out that we were elite runners - not so far from the truth, surely? Not only good fun, but a tip-top way to correct all manner of technical running ills.
Feeling a bit fitter and a bit gooder home we travelled. There's always plenty to do at Rhythms of Life and Andrew says anybody's welcome to pop in any time to help out and for a little refreshment.
Lovely to be in Westminster. Stay good everybody,
Simon

On the 20th anniversary of Oasis famous Knebworth gig, nine GoodGymers set off to water the plants, weed, and generally tidy up at the ace Oasis Green Gym. Given the obvious overlap (was it always meant to be!?), copious badly-inserted puns and references will follow. You have been warned.
Starting off from Westminster with a crowd slightly smaller than the 250,000 at Knebworth (though it felt like more on Oxford Street!), we gently slid away, before giving it all we had, dodging and diving through the crowds to arrive at the garden in good time. There was, of course, a mandatory sprint around Bedford Square. Great times from everyone which we subsequent smashed on the way back - cos tonight we were rock n roll stars. And Sally had to wait. Obviously.
At the task we watered, weeded, and tidied to keep the garden looking alive and fresh for another day! Some expert watering technique on display from all - maybe, just maybe, we're gonna be the ones that saves them (plants). Massive congrats also to all for not falling (or jumping!) in the pool!
On the way back we mixed it up again with MORE progression intervals around Bedford Square, where everyone put in a massive effort and improved on their previous times - faster than a cannon ball! Cruising back all the roads we had to run were winding, but this was more than made up by meeting a new wrinkled furry friend - a Shar Prei dog! Rumours that he will become the official GoodGym Westminster dog can neither be confirmed nor denied.
Some nice stretches to cool down, a good Wednesday 5k down, and we were done! GoodGym: come for the running and good-doing, stay for the dogs and Oasis puns. Some might say, at least. Til next time!
*Big shout-out to Mel who suggested the title for this run report!
