We had another Friday lunch visit to the Ace of Clubs today, and it was brilliant to see some lovely new faces - a huge welcome to those who came to their first mission today!
We split into various teams to tackle all the jobs - in the laundry we packed up bags of cosmetics to hand out, the harvest festival donations were sorted, while clothers were organised for people living on the streets.
Just over an hour's worth of hard work and we were done. and rewarded by some vary tasting looking lunch!

It was a mammoth session today at Ace of Clubs, a local organisation which supports vulnerable homeless people by providing hot food, showers, laundry, clothes and medical support.
What made it even better was that we had a few new faces - welcome to your first GoodGym session guys, it was lovely to meet you!
Jobs included putting together bundles of toiletries, packing the foodbank, serving hot food and sorting out the donations that were coming thick and fast from harvest festivals in the area. It started off steady, but before long we were packing up food like a well-oiled machine, including several hundred tins of beans! We even created a leaning tower of pasta - just don't mention that one crate of tomato sauce...oops!
Chef and manager Willem was 'speechless' at how much we managed to get done. 'Who needs to win the lottery when I have you guys,' he said. Well done team, what a difference you made on a Friday lunchtime!

Nick earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Nick completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Nick was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Our job last night was to build a number of desks for a local centre which the community will be able to use. Sounds straightforward? That's what we thought, until we saw the pile of panels and screws...and no instructions.
Luckily there were five of us there to crack the puzzle, including Nick who came along for his first mission - welcome Nick!
We got cracking, building the desks in different rooms. The largest one got done pretty quickly, and then we moved on to the smaller ones, with their special 'modesty' panel. That's where it got slightly more complicated. Luckily Lorna drew on her previous Crystal Maze experience (she didn't get locked in this time though), while Clare put her recent yoga expertise into good practice under the tables screwing in panels, while Nick and I used our Scrubs' knowledge to start assembling ('lefty loosey, righty tighty'). We all struggled with the assembly and after thinking we had finished, realised we had put on both the legs and the table top backwards. Cut to Frances in the next room, who had done two whole desks perfectly on her own. She had definitely already got her Ikea badge.
