Scrub-a-Dub-Dub

Reading Report written by Susmi Benny

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, two goodgymers set out to help clean up the pool area at a local primary school.

We were joined by a number of other volunteers from the school and set about removing weeds from the tiles, sweeping and mopping the toilets, cleaning the sides of the pool, and getting the pool toys washed and ready to be used for the summer.

It was truly heartwarming to see so many people come together and help out, and the results were great after just two hours of work! I couldn't end the day without having a leisurely run back home.

As always, thank you for all your hard work and we do hope to see you all at our next session!

Halfway to hooray: Cheering at the Reading half marathon

Reading Report written by Susmi Benny

We had the pleasure of cheering on the Reading half marathon runners, powered by pom-poms, tambourines and cow bells supplied by Sport in Mind.

We started the morning by meeting at Reading train station and then making our way to Forbury gardens where the Sport in Mind gazebo was based.

It was a cloudy day but fueled with the energy of the other supporters and some very sugary drinks, we had a blast and cheered on every single runner! It was great to see some new Goodgymers joining us too. Ganesh, Joshna and Sandra brought great energy to the mix and it was a lovely event to witness.

We ended the day by helping to pack up the gazebo and items before heading back in the afternoon.

Thanks again to Jenni, Chris, Ganesh, Joshna and Sandra for attending and see you all at the next one!

Bin there, done that

Reading Report written by Susmi Benny

4 goodgymers set out on another evening for our second litter pick of the year. We started from Siren bar and did a loop around Reading town centre, ending by Reading Minster.

It was a cold but refreshing night and we also had the pleasure of welcoming Ricky to the group for his first GoodGym task. Along the way, we collected a good 3 full rubbish bags of paper, wrappers, plastic bags and many many cans and bottles!

After a good haul, we ended the night with a group photo and a lovely farewell. Great job team Reading and looking forward to our next one!

On the litter pick it was mentioned that the council wouldn't provide bags. But Reading Council do a scheme where they supply litter pickers, hi-vis vests and bags to individuals and groups to adopt a street/area. Here's the link (or search RAYS on their Web site): https://www.reading.gov.uk/about-reading/improving-your-community/reading-adopt-your-street-rays/

Thanks Ricky, that's who we contacted before, but will give it another go and see what we can do! Hopefully we will have them the next time you join us :)
