Curious? Tom has just run their first session in another area. For that explorative spirit Tom is awarded the scout badge. A Scout is trustworthy

No paint, no gain!

Nottingham Report written by Peter Edwards

Wednesday night with goodgym was "The Place" to be as six enthusiastic goodgymers met up to help prep a community centre. To get us all warmed up Peter led us to a local park do some exercise in the outdoor gym there. A few kettle bells swings later we met up with Kirsty from The Place to brush up on our decorating skills and do our bit to transform this amazing space. Walls were scrubbed and painted, ladders were climbed and "marigolds" donned. We must have impressed as we were offered tea, given a tour and invited back for future tasks! We also welcomed Becky to her first ever task.

Toiling with Soil

Nottingham Report written by Nottingham runner

A small but hardy crew of GoodGymers headed over to meet Adele up at Walter Halls School, a place we previously went to back in May to dig a big hole and roll giant cable reels down a hill (yes, really.

This time, Adele had ordered in some giant sacks of compost for the school allotment area, but the company refused to deliver them any closer to where they needed to be because of the poor weather.

So Rachel, Tom and Leah rolled up their sleeves, grabbed some spades and wheelbarrows and set about carting as much as we could across the school's expansive field and down into the allotment.

We quickly managed to fill a flowerbed and a half that Adele and her younger daughter had cleared of weeds, then started on making a big pile for the kids to get stuck into distributing around the garden.

Adele's older daughter became an honorary GoodGym member, helping us with the soil while keeping us hugely entertained with a wealth of riddles and insightful questions, and getting us our cardio in by turning each round into a literal wheelbarrow race.

We'll try to organise another task here soon, there's always plenty to do!

Green festival

Nottingham Report written by Tim Johnson

Well done to Tim and Tom who helped out at this year's Nottingham Green Festival.

The weather turned good after a soggy few days and the festival was a great success!

It was splendid seeing the amount of people who went to it!

A sssslippery customer

Nottingham Report written by Rachel Levick

Four GoodGymers reconvened at Forest Rec this week to do some more promotion for the Nottingham Green Festival. Our original task for the evening was supposed to be at a school but sadly that had to be cancelled. Luckily, we had enough notice to get hold of more leaflets so that we could finish what we started the previous week (see that report here).

This week it was Leah, Nigel, Tom and Rachel, so we split into pairs and wound our way up the roads in the Forest Fields area. Although we had more leaflets than last time, as we approached Gladstone Street we decided to pop into the Sumac Centre again to attempt to get some more to keep up stocked for the rest of the hour (Nigel and Soliane had also volunteered to drop some into town in the next couple of days so we wanted to grab some for that).

Luck was on our side this week and we found Pat, one of the Green Festival organisers, on site so he furnished us with another pile of flyers. This meant we could continue posting in letterboxes as we headed down another of the long roads back to Forest Rec. Before heading home, Leah dished out some of the This Girl Can merch from the back of her car - there are still some water bottles and tote bags left if anyone wants them. Nigel also managed to drop a few leaflets to the sports centre at the recreation ground.

Now, you may think that the most exciting thing about a leafleting task is the thrill of whether the gate will open, if there will be a dog barking inside or whether the letter box will try to take your fingers with the leaflet?? Well, think again. Tom delivered a leaflet to A SNAKE!! (well, it was a man with a snake poking out of his sleeve, but still a rather unexpected encounter).

A big thankssss to everyone for a sssssuper tasssk!

We have lots of great tasks coming up (hopefully without snakes) - check them out and sign up at https://www.goodgym.org/v3/areas/nottingham/sessions. If you have any questions at all before signing up, feel free to drop the TaskForce and email at goodgymnottingham@gmail.com.
