This special group of eight GoodGym folk caught the best of the morning sunshine today, and as they did they also gifted flowers and blooms to the community at Ingestre Road Estate.
Across 90 active and happy minutes, nine recycled planters (from a fancy complex in Battersea) were filled with gravel, lining, compost, and perennials :)
Thank you, everyone, for your time and energy this morning! It was just great to see you!

On Wednesday, we went to Alberta Estate to help out. But firstly, we had to get there, which was a challenge in itself!
We met at Old Spike, Rosalind was first to arrive. Daryl brought his friend, newbie, Ryan (welcome!). And Benjamin, Gemma David, Sam, Cecilia and Mansur came for the run also. After a quick warm up, we started the almost 5k run towards Walworth Road. Due to the power of technology, Isaac met us en-route. Then we found Will, Rosemary, Jessie and Andrada when we arrived at Alberta Estate.
With our team now assembled, our task was to move some soil from two compost heaps, into a plot around the corner. With 15 of us, it was hard to know how to get started! But in usual Goodgym fashion, we quickly organised ourselves into smaller groups, one group at the compost heap, another group at the end location, and a few groups shuttling soil in between.
After 30 minutes we had moved over half of the soil - enough to make space on the heap for some new compost that was coming fresh from the barrel. And before we knew it, we were tidying up, taking the group photo, and saying goodbye before our run back.
We ran back as the sun was setting. Unfortunately Ben's injured knee flared up and so he hopped onto a Lime bike, beating us back by 10 minutes. After a cool-down and some community led stretches, it was time for pizza and pub. Great work team!

Gemma, Rosemary, Will, and I set off from Old Spike after a quick warm-up for a sunset run to Old Alleynian Sports Club. There, we met Isaac, Sam, and Nathan, ready to tackle our task for the evening. Ian put us to work clearing the astroturf in front of the rugby clubhouse. We used the soil we removed to fill in holes on the cricket pitch, helping to smooth it out in time for summer. By the time we finished, the astro looked much better! As a well-earned reward, Ian treated us to Easter eggs before we set off on our run back to Old Spike for a cool-down. To end the evening we headed to the pub for a well-deserved drink.

The oldest youth club in the world, St Andrew's, is always a buzz of activity offering every kind of club imaginable to local children - from cookery to judo to chess and everything in between! When we arrived the pancake making was happening in the kitchen, the speaker was pumping and boxing club was in full swing. It's amazing to see, but with all the kit needed to make it happen, space is at a premium in this central London location. That meant our job for the evening was to help create some more!
We were taken upstairs to the storage room at the top of the centre to find an area full to the brim with boxes, school uniform, frames and racquets...so many racquets!
We wasted no time getting everything sorted into piles and sorting out the contents of the boxes. There were many questions along the way. What was the mysterious plastic implement, where were we going to put all the empty frames, and why had Jayson (year 6) abandoned his homework?
Before long we had made a big difference and there was a lot of new floor space to show for our efforts. Next week we're back handing out food to rough sleepers, hope to see you there!

Two visits to Pret and a local bakery, two GoodGymers, one very cold evening - the result? Masses of food which would otherwise be thrown away reaches rough sleepers on the streets of Westminster.
While we walked, packed and waited there was plenty of running chat, covering the best ultras to do, the benefits of running the London marathon backwards, and how run has got very...vibey!
Thanks so much to Will who stepped in to help transport the huge amount of sandwiches, rolls, salads and delicious baked goods with his trusty ikea bag! We wouldn't have been able to transport nearly as much to those who need it most without the help!
