Despite the cold weather 17 goodgymers headed to West Bank park to help Kristina from City of York Council with two tasks. The first team of 7 were returfing around the football goals. Kristina was slightly concerned that she'd forgotten to tell the security team who lock up the park we were there. Luckily we weren't "turfed out"! This first team were faced with some very muddy goal mouths but after loading up barrows of turf and stomping out down they turned it "pitch perfect". The second team of 10 were "hedge trimming" around the pond or probably more accurately tree felling! Some of the group got to work lopping off the smaller branches. Others sawed larger thicker trunks down to fence height. Bec was very excited about this job! After a few shouts of "Watch out" as trees went in slightly unexpected directions we got into the swing of it and got people to hold the trees to direct the fall! Once the first group were finished they helped finish chopping and bagging all the branches, leaving a neat (ish) hedge.

This task supported
Friends of West Bank Park
Friends organisation protecting, maintaining and developing the park

Conservation work, edible planting, annual fairs and Christmas carols, pop-up cafes, fundraising to develop the park and playground, campaigning against cuts to the park's budgets, locking and unlocking the park each day and night, involving the community in decision-making about the park, children's and family activities, volunteering opportunities, etc etc!!
