39 GoodGym Bro's n Sisters donned their red tops and joined the Monday evening fun.
We had people from 6 areas, namely Tower Hamlets, Worthing , Coventry , Greenwich, Portsmouth and York running, walking, cycling and spreading positive vibes.
People tried different things including a seaside walk, jog around the local park, run by the windmill, around streets of the city centre, loops around back alleys, jog to see Christmas lights, or cycle to and from a community mission.
I ran to say Hi to 7 GG Yorkies doing essential leaf clearing task at a local park.
Hopefully it's not long before we are able to run in a group together.
Let's keep motivating each other!

Deborah Rack completed 25 good deeds with GoodGym.
Deborah has already done 25 good deeds with GoodGym. Instead of doing anything else, they've used their run to go and help people that need their help; digging, lifting, scraping, clearing, planting and weeding. Stuff that makes this a better place to be.

It was the final night of the January Challenge and 20 of us gathered at St Nicks, that was everyone except Craig, who was super busy supporting his wife Charlotte who was giving birth to the tiny lady Indigo.. massive congrats to them!
Let's also give Roger a big cheer, who came along for his first ever good deed.
We split into two teams with one team digging holes and one team venturing into the wood to dig up trees for transplanting. St Nick's is losing a small patch of the reserve and this project is all about relocating the trees to save resources.
Turns out the gravelly holes were hard to dig AND the trees were bigger and rootier than expected so we had to quickly make them bigger and join pairs of holes together to create more of a trench.
With all the trees in, we had one final task to move a giant, heavy sleeper which would make the fourth and final side of a woodland nursery bed.
Then we celebrated doing over 800 good deeds this month and the arrival of Indigo with a campfire expertly made by Maria and a few toasted marshmallows.

On the final Monday of the January Challenge, our 3rd birthday group run and my last ever night leading GoodGym York, an amazing group of 75 pitched up to do a stonking amount of good!
In that enormous group we had:
We split into three running groups and a walking group, on a collective mission to transform the Nunnery Lane residential area.. with this list of mini and not-so-mini tasks to tackle:
The walking group were split into three sub groups to tackle tasks 2, 4 and 9. It took a while to figure out who was going to go with who due to lack of reading glasses. The lamppost task was absolutely the most complicated as appropriate lampposts needed to be identified according to a strict set of criteria, and marked as to whether or not they'd be suitable to display a neighbourhood watch sign.
So we're looking for dark lampposts that are approximately 2.2m tall?? - Paul
Leanne's group arrived at the Task 1 location (actually Task 5: raised beds) and Max was delighted to be able to use the IMPACT DRIVER, imagine a nail gun but for giant bolts and you won't be far off.
Then Mitch's team arrived and were split up to litter picking, community garden rubble clearing and adding extra people power for the raised beds.
Jenny, one of the three task owners, did more running than most of the GoodGymers as she went back and forth between the zones retreiving various tools from the van.
I need a boltcutter! Jenny
Then pea shingle team finished and moved onto Scarcroft Green, they were shortly joined by the litter picking squad and eventually the community garden team (though a few of those went up to help the raised bed team too).
We had a crazy ten minutes of raking, edging, digging, standing around having a chat, and frantically attempting to put all the tools back into the van. Then we only had five minutes remaining for the biggest, fastest game of Cones of Joy, ever.
It's a two lane motorway of circular running!!! Katie
There was just enough time for a gigantic group photo before the short run back to base. That truly was an enormous amount we achieved in about an hour.
Massive thanks to everyone who showed up tonight, or has showed up any time over the last three years. It really has been eggcellent and I think you're all the best.
Don't forget to do your lunges.

Epic session Egg, we all celebrated GG York's third birthday in style, able to talk about previous good deeds and other stuff with familiar faces, with my taskforce arm band, and Yorkie bar too! Epic Egg, you will bring happy thoughts and smiles to many in your new venture, as you have done at GG these past three years! Thanks. So glad so many made it to celebrate with you!

18 Goodgym Yorkies descended on Rawcliffe park for a night of assorted good deeding. The first task required 3 brave souls who would be happy to head out into the dark woods with only their headtorches for guidance. Up stepped Tim, Egg and Elyse, with Tim boldly claiming that he could navigate his way using the stars. With such orienteering skills on show the team set off with bolt-cutters to repair a fence around the park that had been neglected over the years.
Our second team, complete with honorary GG Yorkie - Katie's Dad, were armed with loppers and spades and told to get to work on a bit of cycle path at the entrance to the park and ride that had become well hidden. The area was so overgrown that before long the team had revealed an additional metres width of long lost cycle path
And the third team of GGers set to work on a solid pile of stone with some mattocks. This was then shovelled into barrows and used to restore a path. Lizzie, who wasn't in the most sensible of footwear and Val, who was lacking a headtorch, would only go so far with their wheelbarrows before their lack of provisions limited them. But the team still got the job done.
Before long groups 2 and 3 had returned back to base. But still no sign of our woodland adventurers. Could it be that Tim wasn't the expert navigator he proclaimed to be? We were getting ready to send out a search party, until some distant headtorches started getting nearer and nearer. With everyone back safe we had time for a quick group photo before heading off into the night

For tonight's benchmarking task, we asked each team for a short summary of their benchmarking experience.
Max and Paul Kelly: We found a cluster of benches, hit the motherload! They were at 'mental region skinny' (what three words).
Chloe and Nikki: We had a stream that was meant to be a path, didn't have wellies.
To condition check the benches, we just gave them a kick!
Val and Deborah: We went round in circles. We were meant to find somewhere called fairway, it was faraway!
Mitch and Emma: We found a bench shaped like a dragonfly, a bench shaped like a butterfly and a bench shaped like a snail.
Ben and Alaya: It was perfect conditions for running, which was good because we only had one bench.
The Barretts: There are a LOT of benches along the river.
Mel and Debs: We had to kick Vicky and Gary out of our area because they were trespassing. We also took a selfie at Mitch's house. We also ranked highlighters in order of colour preference (blue is last).
Craig and Louise: I'm glad Craig was navigating, I would have got us lost.
Vicky and Gary: I really like benchmarking, it makes running much more fun (Gary).
Amy T and Paula: Amy is a top navigator (Paula), Paula is the queen of the switchbacks (Amy).

Despite the cold weather 17 goodgymers headed to West Bank park to help Kristina from City of York Council with two tasks. The first team of 7 were returfing around the football goals. Kristina was slightly concerned that she'd forgotten to tell the security team who lock up the park we were there. Luckily we weren't "turfed out"! This first team were faced with some very muddy goal mouths but after loading up barrows of turf and stomping out down they turned it "pitch perfect". The second team of 10 were "hedge trimming" around the pond or probably more accurately tree felling! Some of the group got to work lopping off the smaller branches. Others sawed larger thicker trunks down to fence height. Bec was very excited about this job! After a few shouts of "Watch out" as trees went in slightly unexpected directions we got into the swing of it and got people to hold the trees to direct the fall! Once the first group were finished they helped finish chopping and bagging all the branches, leaving a neat (ish) hedge.
