Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Louise Chambers
A select group of four hardy runners braved the storm for the first trip of the year to Melvin Hall.
A big Bromley welcome to Alys who didn't let the wild weather put her off her first good deed. Extra kudos for the funky pizza leggings!
The wind was howling and the rain was sideways, so we did a quick warm-up before heading to the warm and dry Melvin Hall. John was waiting for us and had laid out cloths and sprays for us to clean the windows in the kitchen, hall, foyer and office, and to clear out, clean and re-stack a storage cupboard in the kitchen.
Tim set to work methodically clearing the shelves of glasses and plates, whilst David and Alys tackled the windows. When the group came together in the kitchen, the conversation turned to Alys' leggings, which aren't the only quirky pair she owns, with a promise of meditating sloths adorning her legs on her next task. David shared that his nickname at university was sloth, due to his laid-back, relaxed nature and slow movements! Tim told of a book that he had read about sloths and hyenas, and dropped in a random fact that there is a population of wild hippos in Colombia, courtesy of Pablo Escobar. GoodGym is nothing if not educational.
When it was time to leave, the weather had unfortunately not improved, so it was a run back to the start point, where we did a quick wall-sit before stretching out our soggy limbs and heading off to the warmth of home.
Next week we're returning to the St Christopher's charity shop in Crystal Palace to help sort stock and tidy the shop. It's a short run but up hill, sign up here.
