Report written by York runner
29 GG Yorkies ran to Foxwood for a double task including technical skills!
But before that, we had two members to cape up. Huw donned the Cape of Good Deeds for reaching 50 good deeds and Becky donned the Centurion Cape for 100 good deeds - make sure you go and give both of them a big cheer.
Paul led the way across Hob Moor with not a single navigational hitch whilst Leanne backmarked and kept Lizzie company whilst she sprayed dog poo neon pink (an official task we've been asked to help with to raise awareness and visibility of rogue poo in this area).
On arrival, we split into two groups. One group went with Neil around the back of the Community Centre to dig a grassy area over ready for wildflowers to be planted. The second group were involved in the tricky task of laying a paved base for a shed. It had to be flat and level and really good because we're building the shed in a few weeks. Fortunately we have Craig, the go-to member for building and technical things. He led the team with nothing but a plank and a bit of string.
To start the base, first of all we had to remove a few wheelbarrows of bark which we'd put down months ago. The bark was relocated to an area under the trees across the car park and a crew of rakers were ready.
Look busy, Egg's coming!! (naughty member, you can guess)
On the grassy area, Neil had plotted out beautiful boundaries for us to dig out and there was plenty to do. Gradually more and more people drifted from the shed task to the digging task as the time counted down. As well as digging up most of the grass, the excess needed to be bagged ready to be loaded onto a trailer.
Once all the bark had been removed, it was time to lay sand down to form a base for the slabs. Paul was labouring away with digging and barrowing the sand but had become distracted when he found a plastic cup in the mix.
This sand is the absolute perfect consistency for sandcastles!
Time was ticking away and we had just four minutes left on the clock. Everyone on the grass picked up the pace and tension grew on the shed foundation task.
It's just 2 minutes per slab!! - excited Becky of CoYC
The slab team completed their task with even enough time to sweep the sand away, and everyone had loaded tools back into the van super fast, so we had plenty of time to fit in a little workout.
THE CAR PARK LINE WORKOUT!
"Are we line dancing?", asked Nick. Even better than that; a bit of balance, coordination and agility with a combination of exercises using nothing but a white line.
We finished and ran back across Hob Moor. All that's left is a little message from Neil.
GoodGym, our Garden Angels! A huge thank you once again for condensing at least 6 hours work into less than 60 minutes. Your good-natured and efficient members take the strain out of quite heavy duty tasks.
