Tonight we went for a plog. 'What's a plog?!' I hear you/Jassy cry. It's a combination of jogging with picking up litter (merging the Swedish verbs plocka upp (pick up) and jogga (jog) which gives the new Swedish verb plogga, from which the word plogging derives) - thanks Wikipedia!

Starting at the Quaker Centre, we headed off and with open rubbish bags we p-lunged and p-squatted our way finding handfuls of rubbish that Storm Eunice and Storm Franklin had thrown around. The car park near Fairfield unearthed some little treasures such as a builder's helmet and an old dressing gown. From there we jogged to Clattern Bridge and down to the river. Jassy found a funny hiding place for lots of empty glass bottles near Kingston Bridge - a very hole-some experience. Jennie showed us where there might be some new developments along the front of the river just below the John Lewis building - can't wait to see what they come up. We plogged round the front of the Hilton Hotel and found a pack of cards with South African animals on which was very apt considering Dermot from Connected Planet Foundation had just come back from his honeymoon there - we all picked up our favourite animals for a photo opportunity.

We cleared up by Kingston College, stretching our arms through the railings to collect the cans and bits of plastic. Only when we get to the end did Dave point out that it wasn't fenced in and that we could have just walked round to pick up the items. Doh!

All in all we picked up 5 bags of rubbish and we could have easily picked up more but we could only take what we could carry. Hopefully Kingston is looking a bit cleaner for our efforts.
