Last Wednesday we went to a new task! We went to YHA Thameside to do some weeding.

Emma, Rosemary and Jessie met us at the task. Meanwhile, Isaac, Gemma, Sam and Emma ran with me and it was definitely one of our longer runs. The run was worth it though, since Jess from YHA gave us warm cookies and drinks.

The weeds were quite easy to pull out, apart from the spikey ones. Isaac also spotted some massive mushrooms.

Suppor YHA with their greening project for one of their London sites in Rotherhithe

YHA is a national charity managing over 150 sites across England and Wales. Our mission is to enrich lives, particularly those of young people, by offering exceptional hostel stays and transformative experiences. We aim to connect young people with the outdoors, heritage, and adventure, helping them build confidence, improve their well-being, and create milestone memories. We support young people facing challenges through various projects and initiatives. This includes offering fully or partially funded residential trips for groups and families in need, funding school residentials for children from disadvantaged areas, and improving access to the outdoors through our Outdoor Citizens community, which champions inclusivity and diversity. At YHA London Thameside in Rotherhithe, we’re seeking to enhance our green spaces and outdoor communal areas. Our goal is to improve the flower beds and courtyard by removing weeds and maintaining these areas. By improving and preserving these green spaces, we can provide lasting benefits for both the families and school groups who visit us, as well as local residents who use our facilities. We want to create a safe, attractive, and welcoming environment that invites the Rotherhithe community to enjoy our café and outdoor areas. Enhanced green spaces would contribute to better air quality and positively impact the health and well-being of our visitors and the wider community. Additionally, these areas could foster social integration by encouraging volunteerism and hosting new activities, further strengthening community bonds.
