Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Seventeen awesome GoodGymers ran 6.5km to clear a jungle of a courtyard at Fulford Social Hall.
After welcoming our new runners, Melissa and Leanne led a sassy salsa warm up.
Parish councillors Vivienne and Andrew welcomed us in and we split into three groups as we thought the courtyard was a teeny tiny space that only a few people would fit in. The first group opened the door to the yard and were faced with a wall of spiky plants. Undeterred, they worked their way into overgrown depths, hacking as they went. The second group set to sweeping up the middle courtyard whilst the third group boshed out a mini circuits session with side lunges and star jumps and loads of other good stuff.
"This is the best task, total destruction is fun!"
After ten minutes everybody switched around and had a go at each different station. Gradually, as the back courtyard was cleared, more of us could get in there and help. People were sawing down trees and dragging whole bushes out of there - total madness.
After 25 minutes, the middle courtyard was positively gleaming and we had opened out the back courtyard massively; it was double the size we initially thought. We hauled out as much of the foliage as we could so it would be ready for collection.
We celebrated our achievement with a lovely run back along and over the river, then had a good cool down and stretch before heading to the pub. Siobhan was awarded her red laces for bringing a buddy along and gave a heartwarming acceptance speech.
"This is amazing. I have a friend!"
We will head back to the social hall soon to finish what we started, so keep your eyes peeled!
