Eleven runners met on a gloomy but strangely balmy August evening (something to do with the eclipse...?) to do some serious sweeping, mopping and kitchen blitzing at Granville Community Kitchen, a community led initiative to develop a food hub that would enable the South Kilburn community to access healthy, affordable and sustainable food through a variety of food related activities.
See their great blog at https://granvillecommunitykitchen.wordpress.com/about/ for more details.
The group made light work of the two mile run down to the centre in a mere 22 minutes, to find Lesley there to meet us with open arms, delighted to have some willing hands to help with the huge task of cleaning up the floors and the kitchen. Runners were divvied up into groups - Eliza, Liz, Amy and Tania tackled the kitchen, while Karen and Dinesh swept the stairs, and Sabina, Pushpa and Dimple and Joe hit the floors with brooms and mops and soon had the place sparkling like a new pin.
Pushpa showed that she sure knows how to push(pa) a mop around and set the pace for others to follow, meanwhile I had a look at some of the photos on display showing some local South Kilburn life and history. We had to drag Elisa away from the kitchen at the end, Lesley would have been happy for her to stay, but we had to make it back up the hill to the Queensbury while we still had some strength left!
Yet again what a difference a group of people and 35 minutes can make, thank you so much!
