Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
19 runners run 4.5km to St Peter's Church to weed the church yard
Nineteen magnificent runners showed their dedication to running and community action on Wednesday evening! Goodgym Colchester's second outing saw Angela lead the way from Leisure World, up through Castle Park to St. Peter's Church on North Hill. There we found a rather overgrown graveyard to the side of the church and the team set about clearing the area and significantly reducing the work for the church warden.
St. Peter's church is an important hub for many people and a variety of projects therefore maintenance of the grounds is vital so everyone can enjoy their visits to the church grounds. It was all smiles and green-fingers (and the odd nettle sting) as the Goodgym runners made a great impact in a short amount of time. Many hands do indeed make light work. The team uncovered a number of overgrown graves and the difference was visible in a relatively short time. Brilliant job!
That was the warm up over.
The good deed was done and Angela took great pleasure as she timed a questionable 10 minutes of hill sprints! Everyone gave lung-busting effort with heaps of encouragement and determination as North Hill turned into Essex's very own Everest. The effort was excellent and I am sure parkrun will seem easier on Saturday!
As the team set about the gentle run back to Leisure World there was a little time to reflect on a great piece of community work and a work out we will all feel in the morning. The session summed up all that is good about exercise and all that is good about people. Bring on the next session and awesome job everyone.
