27 runners ran 4k to do good at Myatt's Fields Park

Come what may, every Tuesday evening at 18.45, GoodGym Lambeth can be found in Papa’s Park getting ready to do some running and some good. A little bit of drizzle can't stop us!

We started this evening's session focusing on our breath, challenging ourselves to breathe deeply into our bellies. We did this by placing one hand on our chest and one hand on our belly and concentrating on pushing the belly out with our in-breath - this fills your lungs with oxygen, pushes your diaphragm down and is my personal go-to method for getting rid of a stitch.

After some breaths and a head count we warmed up and g-leaf-fully headed on out to Myatt's Fields Park where we were met by Sara, the park manager. Myatt’s Fields Park provides a safe, clean, green space for locals as well as specific events centred around the wellbeing of the local community. Our task for the evening was to clear the leaves from the children’s playground into giant bags and take them to the huge leaf composting pile.

After twenty minutes of industrious work, we had cleared the entire playground area and had moved into other parts of the park - well done team! Sara was (leaf)blown away. Our task finished, at 20.00 we gathered in the children’s playground for a pyramid interval plank challenge. GoodGym Lambeth aren’t quitters! And in spite of the moans and groans during the longer intervals everyone pushed through. A session to be proud of.

Back the group headed in the rain whilst Lucy had a brief adventure seeking out Michael in the dark - leaf-ing no stone unturned in her quest to reunite him with his head torch. Joining the group back at Papa’s Park and getting warm and dry was quite a re-leaf.

Autumn is certainly upon us, you had better be-leaf it (sorry, I had to!), and we hope to head back to Myatt’s Fields soon to find out about their latest project.

Thanks for a great run everyone and hope to see you back next week!
