SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
An unexpectedly sunny spring day yesterday, thought it was going to be overcast and gloomy - my bbc weather app is getting binned, too much 'fake' weather for me. Was a treat to see 12 enthusiastic and fit runners in the Aquatics Centre. Primed and ready for the task ahead.
Violeta returned after a long hiatus and it was great having her back. Chris came back for his second task, with manual labour on the cards his tree trunk arms were highly useful. Ramon also made a welcome appearance after a busy few weeks, as did James post eastern europe travels. With only a few sessions left, Alexmade one of her last her appearances - only three to go I think? We should do a social that night, yeah? Give Al a few shandies and talk her out of it.
Quick little warm up and chat as there was sharp wind cutting through the warm glow of the sunset. "What's your favourite chocolate bar?" offered some interesting answers and some food for thought, literally. Posh Lindt, solid Yorkies, old school Maverick, tried and tested Twix, creamy Kinder Bueno, one of your 5 a day Fruit and Nut and wafery wonderment in the form a Kit-Kat (not chunky, never chunky). How was I the only Kit-Kat fan? The horror.
1.8 miles down the Lea, running routes in London simply don't get that much better than this, fact. Met by the school caretaker Andy, he gave us a little low-down of the task. Moving laptop cabinets, shelves and another furniture item I can't recall. We scurried onto it. With most of the classes upstairs we used the school lift, no jazz music in there, but it took a fair whack of weight. In circa 20 mins we moved about 30 pieces of furniture through the school maze. Working together in sleek GoodGym style. Even time for a team shot at the end, under a highly philosophical quote. "Is life a game?" - maybe this can be next week's intro question? Maybe not.
We returned with a '100 Lunge Classic'. 10 sets of 10 reps, I did give a 50 option but no on took me up on it - fair dos. My favourite leg exercise, it's functional, it stretches your hip flexors - which determine your stride length (big factor in running), it's a tremendous glute, quad and hamstring workout too. Incorporate it into your training and feel the benefits of more power and less injuries.
Tonight we have a one off starter session - sign up, meet at 7.15 in the Aquatics Centre, back to the same school for a slightly different task - JUST THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
Next week's Wednesday session is being confirmed with Myra - looks like more Boleyn Road action - you guys did a really tremendous makeover there last week. More of that brilliance.
Until then you glorious running gazelles
