New route shake up takes me up to Upper Clapton then south via the River Lea. Running in London can be fantastic if you pick your routes carefully. Managed a wee loop around Hackney Marshes, saw them setting up for Hackney Half on Sunday. Off the top of my head we have Dave, Graham, Paula, Esther and Phoebe floating around the 13.1 mile course. Quite a selection of athletes there, i'm sure I missed a couple too, apologies. I'm pacing 1.45, so do consider joining me, it's much easier to run faster when you forget about pace setting, just follow the muppet with flag, in this instance, that'll be me.
Just realised I forgot the Random Weekly Question this week, crikey, that's a first. No one even pulled me up on it - must be in a parallel universe. We'll restore order next week, feel free to pass any ideas to me. After chatting about GGN's elite Parkrun hit squad, with Victoria winning the women's no. 1 spot (look at her run, her feet never actually make contact with the floor, crazy light-footed speed). Brad closing in on sub 20 territory (20.08 official time) what massive strides he's made. Tim is currently planning his comeback and renewed rivalry, somewhere in a Serbian valley. Kev matched his PB too, to the second - that's some consistent effort there from the sprinting powerhouse.
We made our way over to Manorfield, 1.8miles later Paul had us shifting stuff from one shed to another, as Tori and Graham meticulously power hosed the paving stones at the front. After half an hour you had cleared two sheds, chucked some stuff away and put a lovely clean shine on the outdoor slabs. With a fresh spring breeze in the air I thought we better get some leg work done, warm up the bod via those large pistons of power. 100 lunges in total, with several variants completed. Legs will be stiff by Friday, jog it out and embrace your new leg strength. James and Brad, you still owe us approx 32 lunges, in your own time, fellas.
Was great to have Helen on her first GGN session, no stranger to GoodGym after being a regular at Greenwhich. Hope you enjoyed your first somewhat low-key session. Also Tori is back, post travelling and sacking off the cold weather sessions. Lovely to have you with team again.
Next week we are doing a brank spanking new session. Helping a gardening group that works with mental health sufferers. Digging out foundations for a polly-tunnel, it'll be a longer run of 3.5 miles there. With options to train it back, though I think we can all do it. Really be great to get numbers up on this one - a big presence is required. sign up here
That's all from me, maybe see some of you on Saturday, defo see some of you on Sunday.
Until then
