Loads of brilliant runners tackle two tasks in Lambeth to support vulnerably housed young people and Vauxhall Foodbank
The weather decided to get super cold again - rats! Come on weather, it's spring! After a chilly start, the cockles of our hearts were warmed by Deepak, as he was awarded the April Shit Prize of the Month (SPOTM). Dee reached the big 5-0 last week and in lieu of his black t-shirt, he got a Right Move (other housing rental services are available) goodie bag including some balloons, a calender, a pen, some chocolate caviar (WTF?!) AND a London marathon spectators guide 2017.
I'm so happy with my goody bag! Said Dee
We went out to the basketball court and did some warming up before James B led a smaller group about 3km back to Camberwell. Springfield Lodge provides housing and support for 40 young people and they are making an allotment in their gardens. Last week we moved a shed and made space for some more concrete to be put down. This week, the shed got moved back and lots of rubble got moved up to a skip. Great stuff, we hope the allotment is a great success!
The rest of us took off 3km down South Lambeth road towards the Vauxhall Foodbank. They needed help with their stocktake, which involved some serious arm muscle as trays full of cans had to be taken off the shelves and weighed. Faith and the team were as organised as ever and we got all the work done - hooray!
Katie took small groups outside to do some nice core work and a little sprint section, where there were some lovely 'socket to pocket' arm actions happening. We whizzed off home and into the cold night, after a great night's work.
Vauxhall Foodbank provide short term food support to families and individuals in crisis. We help them out by sorting food collected from local supermarkets into categories and making sure it is correctly weighed. This task is the dream for all lovers of neatness and order. Feel the calm wash over you as all the tins get sorted and put away. The work we do here would take the voluntary staff hours to do by themselves. We get everything bang tidy in 20 mintes.
