Today at Cardiff Junior parkrun, and Flo and Alice from GoodGym were out and about marshalling on the course.

Alice was on HS2, though in this case, HS2 is a specific marshalling point on the Llandaff Fields course, and not part of the High-Speed Railway network (it would be an unfair advantage using any train in a parkrun, let alone a high-speed one).

Flo was on cowbell spot, with four other regular parkrun volunteers. The cowbell spot is called cowbell spot because the marshalls there have to ring cowboys and generate a huge level of cheer as they could be facing runners from three different directions/paths. In fact, this time the cowbell marshalls decide to get extra cheering practice in and cheered anyone running in the area, whether a junior or not.

There were 28 juniors who achieved a personal best result, 22 first-timers to the event, and one junior runner who achieved their marathon wristband (meaning they had completed 21 junior parkrun events). So although every junior parkrun is a marathon achievement to those aged 4-14 who could have stayed in bed instead, today a junior achieved a literal marathon.

As always, parkrun's couldn't go ahead without their volunteers, and today Alice and Flo were happy to help out the next generation of runners and what was also the day of the London Marathon.
