Another week, another trip to the foodbank. Arriving we were met with a similar sight, tins and crates and long-life food which needed sorting in to type of food and date order.

Shift one consisting of Detti, Robin, Louise and Vanessa started sorting the donations received to the food bank and those not yet in date order. The back entrance of the food bank was a (carefully organised) mess of tins and crates which were being sorted by Goodgymers who were also dealing with the cold with most of us surprised by just how bitter it was.

Shift two of Sally, Alastair, Mikaela and James continued the work of shift one, battling with the cold and then the dark with phones out to try and decipher dates on the various items, we all agreed we wish they were always in the same place, preferably in reflective ink...

Across the two shifts there was chat of room reorganisations to keep ourselves busy in these strange times, how our work lives have changed and the striking similarities in dealing with puppies and babies. The usual debates also raged as to what foods are packed together, macaroni cheese isn’t a vegetable, it’s not meat and it isn’t baked beans, etc...

By 5pm a lot of time had been saved for the regular volunteers who arrived to start a mammoth stock taking exercise and as usual thanked Goodgym for all of our time and effort.
