Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
What a difference a week makes. Just seven days ago we were shivering in below zero conditions, while this week some of us were in short sleeves for tonight's task at Acton Green primary school. With the evenings getting lighter every day now, things are looking up!
Before we go any further with the report, can we all please take a minute to salute the amazing Michelle who has notched up an incredibly impressive 600 good deeds. What a feat! Thank you for all you do, you're a total GG Hounslow legend.
After our warm up we ran over to the school were we met with Romina from Cultivate. The job for the evening was a one with a clear start and end point, which made it very satisfying. With weeding, litter picking and leaf collecting tasks it's often impossible to know when to stop! Our task was to completely empty a large shed which is going to be transformed into a learning area and workshop space for the kids. Wasting no time super sexacentennial Michelle dived into the hut, forming the start of a human chain. Out came chairs, paint drying racks, blackboards, toys and plenty of other treasure.
Armed with a trolley each we formed a convoy over to the playground where we dumped, I mean carefully stacked, all the unwanted equipment. Racing back and forth it didn't take long to get rid of everything. Why not check out the before and after shots? It was quite the work out, but we still had time to squeeze in a little fitness session - something that's been missing from the very cold sessions of the last couple of weeks! We covered four main areas - cardio, core, arms and legs - with three exercises per station. Great work everyone.
A speedy run back to base followed by some stretches and we were done for the evening. Another quick shout out for this mission to paint the sea cadet hut on 3rd February. No one has signed up for this fun task and it would be such a shame to cancel as it's our first task with them. If you can make it they'd really appreciate the help!
