Report written by Portsmouth runner
Today Katie, Judy, Val, Sarah, Louise and Mel plus Tessa our honorary doggie member of GoodGym all met at Great Salterns on what was a sunny, but bitterly cold day. It was also very wet and muddy under foot in spite of having some dry days after all the rain. Everything did look lovely and green though and the sunny weather had brought out lots of families with dogs. Wrapping up well, donning our gloves and litter-pickers we started to pick up rubbish before we'd even left the car park! It seemed bonfire night had seen some very big fireworks going off at the edge of the field, but had been left lying around. We moved them to the bin area for them to be picked up when the bin men came along - out of the way of dogs and walkers. Jo had to take the photographs of Katie and Louise carrying the heavy box to the bin, whilst photographer Mel, tried to get into her phone, juggling bin bags, litter picker, two pairs of gloves - not her finest moment! Setting off further around the periphery, we collected many plastic items, bottles, cans, obligatory items of clothing - first some shorts, then further round a T-shirt (not matching)! Lots of McDonalds cups, lids, spoons from McFlurry's plus sweetie wrappers. Sarah found a petrol container sans petrol and Judy, managed to fill 4-5 bags of re-cycling. We also filled 3 black bin liners with the rest of the rubbish - quite a lot in the time, but there was noticeably less litter than on previous visits. Ready for a drink of something hot, we departed Great Salterns, satisfied we'd done a great job.
