Report written by Portsmouth runner
Thoroughly enjoyed our first stint at the HIVE Uniform exchange today at Central Library. We were joined by other HIVE members - George, Nadine, Katy, Sandie, and Catherine. It was a busy start with people coming in looking for uniform and whilst Jen and I were sorting in the backroom, George and Nadine collected school, size and gender details. Fortunately alot of the different garments were already sorted, but with new donations received and already through the 48 hr quarantine period, we had plenty to do. There were more boys clothes than girls (possibly due to the donations coming from lost property!) Other activities today included sorting girls and boys sizes, sorting into relevant school piles. Jen did some shirt and trouser steaming. With nearly twice as many further donations received on the first day, our last job of the session was to sort the clothes into their different types only, ie trousers/shorts, dresses/skirts, shirts etc, re-bag and date them. These will be ready on Wednesday for splitting out further and re-marked for easy access and quick finding. HIVE are hosting the uniform swap for the rest of this week and next with further opportunities for Goodgym volunteers - check out the GG website for details.
HIVE Portsmouth is a strategic partnership in Portsmouth consisting of a representative group of the voluntary and community sector, NHS Portsmouth Clinical Commissioning Group and Portsmouth City Council. We work with local people, groups and organisations in a way that recognises and nurtures the strengths of individuals, families and communities and helps to build independence and self-reliance as an alternative to a reliance on traditional services. We connect people and organisations to share, support and learn in order to meet the needs of individuals and are committed to working together with the objective of building a happier, healthier and more connected city.
