Report written by Nicky Woodall (she/her)
Nine brilliant GoodGymmers met Nicola from St. Nick's and Andy D'Agorne from the council to plant 4000 wildflower bulbs and distribute woodchip along one of the paths across Millennium Fields. Many of us had come from parkrun (and foregone a Knavesmire breakfast!), with some of us also going on to do one or two more tasks that day!
We were all relieved to be able to get over Millennium Fields, despite the flooding.
We split into a woodchip crew and a bulb-planting crew, with some crossover between the two. James was ribbed by Leanne for not barrowing quickly enough, until he was peer-pressured into running and ended up covering 3.5km with the wheelbarrow. The path was quickly replenished, ready for use.
Meanwhile, the rest of the gang were following the bulb-planting instructions to the letter. Nine holes to be dug around each tree and 20(ish) bulbs in each hole, with three holes of each type of bulb around each tree. Phew! We got lots planted though, and may be back to lend a hand with the remainder.
Thanks for a great morning everyone (and thank you to Leanne for the pun!)
