2 runners made their way to the Tesco Extra in Osterley to spend their evening encouraging food donations to FareShare.
FareShare take donations of long life food items from customers and fresh food from supermarkets and redistribute the food to local charities. These charities, such as children's breakfast clubs, homeless shelters and refuges, can then provide meals to those who need them.
After arriving we got our fetching red tabards on set about greeting customers as they entered the shop and offering them a shopping list of items required by FareShare and explaining how the charity itself worked. Lots of people stopped to take a list and many even stopped for a quick chat. But for a while we thought are our work was coming to nothing as we just had a can of beans to show for it. But a sudden rush of donations changed that and seemed to encourage yet more as the rest of the evening flew by in a rush of handing out lists and receiving donations.
We filled two trolleys with donations, one of which was entirely pasta and rice. We took our haul into the depths of Tesco to transfer all our carbs, soups, beans, jams, teas and coffees into cardboard boxes ready to be delivered to FareShare!
