Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
Last night we were back at Berrymede school to meet with Cultivate London and give some love to a couple of neglected beds.
As the rains cleared we warmed up our brains by naming as many European countries beginning with a vowel as possible, and warmed up our muscles with a short heartrate raising session.
After a quick mile we met Romina from Cultivate at the site, and divided into two groups. The task was to empty the beds by 10 cms, filter out the bulbs, then re-fill with a 'lasagne' of soil, mulch and stones. After a bit of discussion about what exactly 10cm looked like, we got stuck in, ferrying soil, rescuing bulbs and finally creating some extremely healthy looking beds.
All that was left was to pose in front of our work, carefully avoid stomping on too many of the million snails that had come out to play following the rain, and put away our tools. Chris led us on a slightly different route home, and we got back just in time for stretches and pub!
Next time we're back to Gunnersbury to lend a hand there, and speaking of Gunnersbury, don't forget that this Saturday is the first monthly north of the river GoodGym parkrun meetup.
