Report written by Emdad Rahman
It was a pleasure to join our team along with our Area Activator Laura and Bablu from Trapped in Zone One (TiZO) for this long awaited task and rescheduled event.
A great thing about our teamwork is we usually have a whole load of random folks come together for a common purpose. We all have different skill sets, knowledge and experience. You wouldn’t be able to tell who is in charge and mostly what you’d see is a group of people merrily getting in with the job at hand.
We were invited to be part of the creation of a new public mural at Chicksand Street Park as part of Black History Month in Tower Hamlets, a project whose aim is to 'help celebrate the Borough’s diverse cultural communities.’
During lunch today we prepped and painted the wall alongside the famous Gutt football pitch, a historic location where we played in many memorable football tournaments during long summer days in the 80’s.
I returned to this very site in Brick Lane a few years ago for a kick-about with Paul Canoville, the first black football player at Chelsea Football Club.
In that sense Coma and Sky High will be creating a befitting mural which we are proud to be a part of.
