Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
History was made last night when, fresh off the back of a week of doing good that was the biggest in GoodGym history, we also surpassed 3000 good deeds. That is a colossal number in just over two weeks, an enormous wave of kindness across the UK. Well done for being part of it!
On a slightly closer to home note, the January challenge is progressing well, and team Hounslow have ratcheted up 37 good deeds out of a target of 80, and 379 kilometers of a goal of 1000kms. Nice work everybody!
We started off last night by welcoming Mike to the group - give him a cheer! - and doing a round up of the week's racing. Shout out to Jamie for some excellent parkrunning. Lovely to see some faces from other GG areas too - we love having you run with us in Hounslow!
After a quick warm up outside which saw us talk about what cheers us up when we're feeling low (wine, tea and GoodGym were the outright winners) we set off for Cultivate London, an innovative urban farm and social enterprise based across multiple derelict sites in West London that trains unemployed young people in landscaping and horticulture and works to engage communities in food growing. It was a chilly night so we took it at a good pace, stopping only to do a few squats at the level crossing (much to the fellow pedestrians concern/amusement/envy - delete as appropriate).
We arrived to find Rosie waiting for us with a change of job which meant we were working in the polytunnel instead of outside, which was rather nice. Our task was clearing the workspace there so we got cracking filling bags with wood, chucking green waste and finally forming a human chain which saw us in the world's most thrilling generation game style human chain with lawnmowers and flamethrowers (kind of) making their way to the rubbish pile - good job we were wearing gloves!
We made it back to Turnham Green in plenty of time to do a really thorough fitness session, which involved do drills that increased incrementally and featured the much maligned lunge curtsy kick combo. Mud spattered, sweaty but having done a tough workout, we finished off the night with stretches, and for most, pub!
Next week is a very important week for us....we are finally, finally going to finish off painting those railings outside Ealing Road Church. Be there for the last few brush strokes of glory, and sign up here.
