Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Emma Wilkins
After a quick sprint down the Taff Trail, I met Rachel and Mikey outside Mrs S's house. We'd been told to expect a hello from Molly, Mrs S's friendly Pomeranian dog. Lo and behold, Molly made a beeline for us as soon as we arrived - she'd clearly heard all about GoodGym and the work that we do! (Mrs S was also pleased to see us!)
Mrs S showed us through her house into her beautiful back garden. She explained that she took great pleasure in spending time in her garden, having lived in the house for some 30 years. However, she was struggling to do some of the heavier work these days. Mrs S asked if we could cut the grass, strim the edges and remove some of the weeds between the patio stones.
We were off.... I got to work on cutting the grass whilst Mikey and Rachel got on with removing the weeds ('misunderstood plants'). We made a good dent in the work before Mrs S joined us for a chat. We talked about how Mrs S had previously owned four dogs at one time and how they provided her with such good company. Molly liked nothing more than to chase after her toys in the garden - Mrs S had taught her to fetch! Rachel explained that she had a retriever that had, thus far, been unable to learn how to retrieve!
We switched up the tasks a little and Mikey dug out a strimmer - he subsequently described this as a "beautiful strimmer." Off he went, strimming all along the edges and making the garden look a lot tidier. Rachel and I finished off the weeding - a small job that made the patio look a lot better. Mrs S then popped back out to check on our work. She took one look at Mikey and proclaimed "I like the way you strim!"
Mrs S was really pleased with our work and said that the garden hadn't looked this good for a long time. Mrs S also explained about some other tasks that she was looking to complete, such as jet washing her patio and painting her pergola. Central office - you can expect a call!
It was time for us to depart. Mrs S reluctantly let us leave, saying that we'd been delightful company. We'll hope to see her again soon! Off we ran in different directions on a beautiful sunny day.
