Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Michael
After what has seemed like the longest summer, with blistering heat and dry conditions the rain came and it did so in torrents. But regardless of the imminent danger of being washed away the two goodgym runners took to the roads, come rain or shine we will do our good. With just a blip in the Summer we were soon at our destination, ready to go and with the rain staying away we knocked on the door.
Emma and Mikey were greeted by Mrs. E & her husband with a smile, we chatted for a while about what they needed doing before making our way around to the back garden. A couple of pictures and more chatting and then it was time to get stuck in, with apples all around the thought of cider did crop up but surely it was too early for such things.
Once we had filled the garden compost bin with apples it was time to move onto clearing the weeds as much as we could. The apple tree was a mighty impressive sight having originally been an apple eaten by a family member a whole 30 years ago.
Now the plan was to clear the lawn where Mrs. E’s husband used to grow vegetables, they had moved in 60 years ago just after they had married and the garden was his joy. So with our challenge accepted we would try our best to get something pleasant to look at again, he likes to sit in the greenhouse and look out at the garden.
We worked on for a couple more hours until every available bin was full, we had cleared enough to show off lingonberry bushes, a beautiful fern and a plant that had once been a favourite of Mrs. E.
We wished them well, chatted some more and then had to make our way home before the rain returned. It really was a wonderful start to the day and lovely to meet them both.
