Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
What a lovely night for a run it was, as ten GoodGymers ran 6k along blossom-lined roads to help sort clothes donations and move mattresses at a local church and shelter.
Before we left, we had a run down of the week's news. Don't forget, RunUK are offering a free place in any of their upcoming runs if you volunteer at the Putney & Fulham half marathon on the 14th April - if you're keen just drop me a line. And if you want to fill your diaries with other lovely things, the GoodGym monthly social is next week, 4th April - hope to see you there!
After the weekly long sleeves/bare arms debate, we set off outside for a warm up and a discussion about the things we were thankful for. From running and the air we breathe, to pizza and wine, we were feeling very grateful. So, after some fast feet, high knees, heel flicks and hopping, off we went to Ealing Rd church.
Just a few minutes in we scooped up Andy along the way, and the group merrily ran along, trying to find the positives of - deep breath now - Brexit. After 3k we arrived to find an enormous pile of mattresses that are used by the men in the shelter waiting to be moved. So after our tried and tested just-slide-it-down-the-stairs technique, 15 mattresses we transported onto the balcony ready for use.
Our next job was sorting a mountain of clothes donations into piles. With lots of 'is this a hat or part of a coat' and the ensuing debate over what belongs in which pile, plus a few 'ooh this is quite pretty and would fit me nicely' , we folded and put away into neat piles ready for distribution.
We had a speedier run back to Turnham Green, we had time for an intense fitness session which saw us take turns running a 400m loop while the rest of us did different conditioning exercises including side-to-side planks, lunge pulses and plank taps.
After a short jog back to base and some stretches we called it a night (apart from pub, obvs). Next week we've got a (very) short run to plant bulbs, but don't worry, there will be a lovely long fitness session to make up for that! Sign up here for the details and to sign up. Until then, happy running Hounslow!
