Share the love

Tonight is the most loved up day of the year...so what better way to spend it than with your GoodGym friends doing something that we actually love doing! Litter picking!

It's very satisfying to see an area reformed after our efforts!

We started off the evening at Montem Lane (our meet up point), with a task brief and a love-ly warm up (including a lunging proposals, sweetheart squats and lovers lateral leaps!)

Then off we ran, getting our hearts racing to the task.

I glove you

So we were doing this task as a local resident (and new GoodGym member) had told us of how bad it was. With our gloves on and pickers in hand, we set to work to make the area love-ly again. With 6 of us in the team tonight, we paired up with the Litter BINGO cards and set to work.

On the surface the area looked ok, with just a little litter here and there, but once we delved deeper, OMG! there was huge amounts hidden under all the wet leaves.

This was Abdul's first litter pick task with us and it was great to pair up with him and get to know a litter bit more about his life.

Jean and Lauren were on it with the BINGO sheet! They found every item on the list plus a child's play table.

Sandy and Agnija were our flower girls today, they found 2 bagfuls of items in the flower and plant pots outside The Centre.

45 minutes in and we had collected 5 large bin bagfuls of every type of waste!

We headed back to our start off point for Sally Squats and a few jumps!

My love for you can never be reduced/re-used/recycled

Here are some waste facts for you :

  • The UK produces more than 100 million tonnes of waste every year, one tonne is about the weight of a small car. In less than two hours, the waste we produce would fill the Albert Hall in London, every eight months it would fill Lake Windermere, the largest and deepest lake in England!;

  • UK recycling rate is 46.2%...vs Germany who recycle 70%!;

  • UK Waste from households is 26.4 million tonnes;

  • UK waste to landfill is 6.6 million tonnes;

  • Construction industry produces 62% of the UK's waste (households is 12%).

LOVING the litter picks? Then come join us on Friday at 11am outside Asda, Cippenham for our next bash at the trash. https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/jubilee-litter-pick-cippenham

Our next Monday night task is a community mission at the Vaccine Centre. https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/vaccination-support-team-6a83b4d4-de31-42d5-9aab-c64d128731db
